I just picked up the 2007 Pioneer DEH-4900ib which has direct plugin to the deck via the pioneer cable, no more interface box. Charges the ipod as well. I also picked up the CD-MR70 wired remote as mine is in the glovebox also and is impossible to get to while driving. Here's a shot of the remote i just installed to the right of the steering wheel, not a real good shot as it was at night.

If you have an AUX input on your current head unit, then I would go with a Harmon Kardon Drive+Play. http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/

I have found them for right around $100 on ebay.

Of course it is not a direct input, but I have had great success with a Monster FM transmitter.

I was all ready to do direct input and found out that I didn't have an AUX input...????

Anyway....I am perfectly happy with the transmitter. It is an option, though if you are needing to purchase a new deck, I would go with direct input....there are MANY options there.

im looking for a new deck as well. I have the clarion cdm4 and its basically garbage. I hate clarions ipod interface.

But, my boat has a 2" (think) wired remote next to the throttle. I'd like to be able to use it, or replace it with another round 2" wired remote. any companies make something like that?

Rick/Lance,

Does the Pioneer wired remote have the ability to pause the IPOD or advance it to the next track?

PS Lance, typing in caps is perceived as screaming.

The Clarion CMD4 (I guess now it's CMD5) gives you the ability to control your ipod through the remotes w/ the additional unit that's available for it. I can't remember the model # of the unit, but it charges it as well as gives you the ability to see the names of the songs, etc. through the remotes.

Hey Razzman, no interface box? I just re-installed mine last night. In all fairness, what I actually re-installed was the remote interface, but both are housed together. I have the display remote and it went dead on me late last season. Had power, but no data. I just got around to tearing it out and taking it down to the shop and having them bench test it. Works perfect. Apparently I just needed to reset the deck, a Pioneer dehp-7700. I did so and viola, back on line. Pioneers can be fickle little bastards if you don't love them and nurture them.

I also have the iPod interface set up and it will run all your playlists/genres/artits. It just takes forever to get to a specific artists or album. From what I understand the Alpine has taken care of that. Does the elimination of the interface box on the Pioneer help that situation? Anyone?

I just bought a Pioneer Premier 590ib from hookedontronics.com for $186 including shipping. It has an included ipod interface w/ direct conrol. I haven't installed it yet but is seems like a nice deck for the money.
