Big Ed dropped off his boat with all of his equipment already installed, and the system workin... We tore it all out and were starting over... Ed lost all of his storage under the passenger side and were giving it back to him. We are remounting all of his amps and making a new home for his two 10W6v2s.

The sub box is being made to fit under the dash, with neon, and blue mirror plexi. I just installed the plexi and it looks sweet, I cant wait to get the neon in there and see it!

Im not a big fan of just mirror plexi glass, I think it gives off too much light, and the inside of the box is too apparent. Soooo... I tinted these peices before i Put them in the box, check it out.

There is also going to be neon in the amp rack, but, shhhhh, dont tell Ed!

Old Sub Boxes:

Old Amp Location:

JL 1000/1 mounted upside down(cooling fins should be right side up):

This was the mess behind the panel:

I relocated all of the electronics on the forward wall and tied all of the wires back to give me the room for the Sub box:

The PPIs and the 1000/1 torn out to give Ed the room that he wants:

Sub Box Build up:

Sub Box in place with finish panel:

And BLING BLING, the tinted plexi inside the box:

Duane- The amps in the pictures were the old amp locations, I am remounting the two PPIs and the JL 1000/1 is going to stay in the same location but placed upright so the amp can get rid of the heat the right way. The JL is staying where it is at because it is up high and out of the way.
Old     (grant_west)      Join Date: Jun 2005       10-29-2005, 10:52 AM Reply
Just so you know the JL amps are suposed to be mounted with the Heat sinks (The black Part) facing up. That way they can exhaust the heet. and then the amp adjustments are in a place where you can adjust them. Ed's JL amp was mounted upside down. Heat sinks down.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Clay, what kind of a stapler due you use to reinstall the vinyl? I haven't been able to find a pneumatic stapler that will shoot staples like were used on my malibu.
Old     (sound_illusions)      Join Date: May 2005       10-29-2005, 1:55 PM Reply
Here are some pic's of Ed finished seat,

The stapler I use is a Porter Cable, It works great. Its real strong. If you push it to hard into the material it will staple right threw the material. You have to hold it at the right pressure to get the staple to set at the correct depth

Ed, when you get your stero cranked, I'm curious to know if you get much dash rattle with two 10's under there. I've got close to 4 sq feet of dynmat type product shoved in and around the dash (22 SSV) to stop the rattling/vibration with one 10w6v2 on a jl 500/1.

Figured if and when I get a regular crew that I don't want them missing any days riding b\c they are cold or maybe sick from rides before,I'll hook up the passangers with heated seats but until then I'm the only regular.

How long did the install take, Ed?

Give us the low-down on what was installed. You already had the NVS setup, right?
Old     (grant_west)      Join Date: Jun 2005       11-04-2005, 10:04 AM Reply
Ed brought us the boat with all his own equipment allready installed. Our job was to rip out all of his old stuff and re-install it.

1. The PPI amps that were mounted in the center of the passenger side storage locker on the floor were taken out and installed on a display amp rack that was mounted up and out of the way on the gunnal. The amp rack held both PPI 4125 amp's and has a cover peice that hides all the connection's the amp rack looks close to what we did on Doug's V230 Sanger.
2. The wire that was run up to the NVS tower speakers was taken out and new larger speaker wire was installed.
3. The interior speakers (polk seperats) had blown up tweaters they were taken out and replaced
4. Under the drivers side dash the wiering was cleaned up and a new box holding 2 JL W-6 v2 subs was made and installed along with new wire.
5. All the fused power distrubution was taken off the floor and Re-installed on the passenger side wall out of the way.
6. Installed a drivers side heated seat.
7. Installed a new brake calaper.<<< LOL
There's lots more but thoes are the major thing's that were done.
