I'm moving to LA soon and wondering about lakes in the area. Anybody have recomendations for where to go. Also, I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep my boat where I'll be living...can anyone give me info on boat storage out there...like how much I can expect to pay for that, locations, etc. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

For day trips to the lake you can check out Cataic Lake (windy and choppy by 8am on weekends) or you can head down to Lake Elsinore toward San Diego. If you want to go the salt water route, there is a Marine Stadium in Long Beach.

For short weekend trips, you can head up to Lake Nacimiento in central CA or over to Lake Havasu/the river but it is usually packed.

I am sure people will chime in with other lake recommendations. In terms of boat storage, I hope you have some deep pockets. I store mine at home but I have heard they run around $300-$350 month. No sure though..

Thanks for the tips...hopefully I won't have to pay for storage out there.

In a concrete canal from the 101??? I doubt it was supposed to be there.....can you imagine the rollers you would get from the concrete walls.

I saw some people wakeboarding UNDER the 405 right at the 22 a couple months ago, I was stopped on a little bridge b/c of a wreck (I wouldn't have known it was a bridge until I looked to my right and watched a wakeboarding boat with rider IN TOW go under me). I was blown a way by it...the water was nice too! I think there is actually a series of small channels that get you inland from Marine Stadium that turns Brackish. If anyone knows of any and needs a 3rd let me know!

really curious about the water off the 101.. pictures??? PLEASE

You won't be wakeboarding in Echo Park, although it would be great fun.

boarding in LA!!!! that's rich!

it's not much better here though. actually, it's probably a lot better, but it still sucks. it's been getting pretty damned crowded.

if you want good water in so cal you HAVE to be on dawn patrol. other than that the waterways get filled with wallies and tubers.

I can't think of anywhere along Route 101 where one could wakeboard. The only river in the LA basin where I've actually seen wakeboarders and waterskiers is the south end of the San Gabriel River. There you will find butter and also a ski slalom course. It's been there for a LONG time. A few weeks ago riding my bike, the bike path that runs on top of the east levy, to Seal Beach, I saw a yellow X2. A helicopter flew by and with the PA system told them to leave. The guy shouted out toward me and another cyclist something to the effect that there kicking us out. Anyways, this is the only place I’m aware of in the LA basin.

BTW, freeboozer is right about dawn patrol.

Eric, haha. I was in that boat. It's actually a yellow Calabria Pro-V (Long Beach State's). We were told it was OK to ride in there by the lifeguard, and then the Long Beach Police helicopter came over and told us to leave. We were not too happy about that, since we were told it was OK. That is kind of funny that you saw that.

Under the 405 and the 22 is the seal beach river
jettie we use to ride there only at high tide. You have to go out LongBeach harbor make a left and go in the seal beach river jettie you can go about 5miles back.
