Weighting the 2011 Axis A22

2011 Axis A22 Vandall edition with stock ballast (not-plug n play). What is the best weight set up you guys have found to slump this thing? Please refrain from the "this wake is fine with the factory bags and the wedge" hahaha. We know its good but more is always better lol

We're lookin to get at least 3500 in it and just can seem to find the right mix with the wedge down. Starboard has been good but Port has been way too steep and a hard. Wake is pretty wide as well... Currently running:

Wedge
700 lead up front
800 (2x400) bags in the back
350 lead in back
300 bag in belly/rear
and factory full

Thoughts or suggestions?

Why'd you take the plug n play out of the vandall edition?

I'm computer jockeying for my buddy hahaha but he just said it def didn't have plug n play. I actually haven't been on the boat yet.

I may be wrong, but I thought the vandall came wiht the plug and play standard. really he should just go get the plug and play, or get the bags. Sounds like you already have the raer 400's, just need the nose bag, that way you don't have to trailer all that lead

If it's a Vandall it has the Plug n Play.

Regardless, slam that thing. 750's in the rear, get the "mushroom" sac for the bow. (that way it is underneath the seats in the front). You can put another 750 on the floor in the rear (centered) and one in the walkway (on the chillax seating in the bow) if you don't have a crew in the boat. Full factory ballast with the wedge down, and enjoy!

In all honesty though, the Fly High plug n play package is great for that boat, just swap the rear sacs in that package for the 750's

Yeah dude all you need is the plug and play and some 750s in the back and you will be right around the weight you want and won't have to tow the lead. hard tanks = 900 750s in the back =1500 mushroom sac up front =950 (according to www.wakemakers.com) That gives you 3350lbs plus the wedge.

My understanding is that a lot of people are running larger sacs in the rear hatches. I have two surf sacs from fly high, which are 1100lbs (w719 - they don't fill up all the way) in the rear compartments of my A22. I also have the pnp mushroom sac in the front (950lbs), and a bow triangle in the front (1000lbs - w706), and the wedge. The singleton marine vid on youtube shows an A22, which is running a similar setup. I have yet to ride behind it full, but I plan to as soon as I have a nice day.

If I'm adding this correct you have roughly 4650 lbs in that thing? Nice

are you running the acme 1235 or even less pitch with the 1615??

and to the OP ... I'm thinking ditch the lead too. If you can have just shy of 5000 pounds with everything hidden plus the 1000 pounds sac in the bow I would ditch the lead too. And make sure you prop that thing right... it will make a world of difference

I agree. Fly High 750lbs. Fat Sacs in the rear compartments, Axis Bow sac up front under the seat, and the 1000lb. Fly High Triangle in the bow on top. This is similar to what Randall rides with and the wake is scary. Perfect but scary. With this much weight I prefer to keep the wedge up but I wakeskate so i don't like the way it changes the lip. If you don't have a lot of riders in the boat throw a tube sac across the back seat. The Acme 1235 works but you have to get people to move forward so the boat will plane out. The Acme 1615 is for sure the best prop when running this much weight.

Just got my A22 about 3 weeks ago. I am running the 750 sacs in the rear and the Axis bow sac in the front. I also have a little lead in the front. I have the OJ core prop. The set up works great. With the 400HP motor it comes out of the hole great.

Ok, we had time last night for one quick set and I let my friend Kyle, who's a very very good rider, take the first set behind my 2011 A22. (I still haven't ridden yet this year, so I plan on shredding Tuesday or Wednesday night this week with stock ballast untill I get my basics and conditioning back). We filled the factory ballast (900lbs), dropped the wedge, filled the pnp rear surf sacs as full as they could get (I'm guessing 800lbs each) in the rear hatches, filled the pnp front sac (950lbs) and filled the bow triangle sac (1000lbs) - (4650lbs + the wedge). With the ACME 1235 and the Raptor 400, the boat planed out in about 10-15 seconds. I was really really surprised and happy with that. I didn't have any people in the boat with me - except for my 2.75 year old though. My friend rode at 75 feet at 23mph. The wake was HUGE and clean back past 80ft! Kyle had never ridden behind an A22, and he was so stoked when he was done with his set that's he's seriously considering trading in his boat now. I wish I had pics, but I had a toddler in my lap while pulling a rider and didn't have a free hand. I'll get some soon enough.

Needless to say, I think my ballast setup is money.

I'm thinking of getting one next year as well. How would u say the wake is shaped? Steep rampy? And what about the fuel consumption with the raptor. I'm coming from an old school 210 which is great on gas and I have heard the a22 can be almost as bad as a loaded xstar as far as hull efficiency

Any boat is going to be bad with 5k in ballast. My 230 with the zr6 was horrendous when weighted heavy.

We averaged 6-8GPH last year with the raptor 400 and plug and play ballast. I am also at 5k ft of elevation so it might be a bit better at sea level.

just curious if any of you have weighted for surfing? I also an very interested in these boats, but I surf more then wakeboard.

I surfed a bunch yesterday behind my a22. I had the rear factory full, the center ballast full and a 1000lb surf sac full to about 800lbs in the rear left hatch + the wedge. At 10.2 mph, the wave was every bit as big and nice as what I got out of my SANTE 230.
