Whats goin on guys. I have been wakeboarding the past couple months with a cheap-o board at my gf's lakehouse and would like to step to a real board. I would prefer a light board and the ability to do surface tricks (small and/or removable fins). I'm sure you guys could point me in the right direction :-)

Ive never personally ridden on one but for surface tricks as well as an all around board, it sounds like maybe a hyperlite roam. Im no expert on it though so could someone back me up???

Also i forgot to mention that it is finless and im not sure if it is a great beginners board but like i said before, i never have ridden on one.

Roam is more of a slider board... I spent the weekend riding it and its fun but if you want to be doing more wakeboarding and less playing i'd go with something like a Substance, Team, Era, or 3DS with 0.7" fins. Just a few boards that are pretty easy to play with on the water. The Era and the Team are definatly going to be the most user friendly boards of the bunch. The Substance is a best seller with really aggressive 3 stage pop but is very slow with not so soft landings. The 3DS is super fast with a hybrid rocker that lands soft, it has to be ridden with the smaller fins though!

Chris- I haven't tried out the other ones Paul mentioned, but I do ride the LF Team, I'm about 190 lbs and I ride the 139. I love it, I ride it without the center fins and it's super easy to pull surface tricks with, it rides very loosely on the water. I'm assuming you will want to be trying jumps if you can't already and I can say that if you have the technique, this board won't hold you back at all, you can get mad air. I'm not sure how "beginner" you are so it may be better if you keep center fins in when you are trying to jump, just to get the technique down. Anyways, not taking anything away from the other boards, but I can't say enough good things about the Team.

Considering Price i have been looking at the Obrien Oasis 142. if i want that center fin can be removed correct? sportsauthority has a pretty nice combo deal with that and Link binding

I only mentioned LF and HL boards because thats about all I ride. The only Obrien i've ridden is the Valhalla and without the center fin or the crook fins the board rides amazing! Tracks as nice and easy as the Trip, pops like a mellow subjekt, and you can butter it around nicely.

Chris check out the CWB Flame and Pure. They both have the removable center fin and you can get it in a package deal with the CWB Torq bindings. Hard to beat either one with the Torq package deal. Very easy to do surface tricks with the center fin removed and the Torqs are sweet bindings with the hinge system, very easy to get in and out of the bindings.

so there is a 120 dollar difference between the CWB flame w/ torque bindings and the Obrien Oasis w/ bindings. no one has experience with the Obrien. money is tight.

Chris, I would assume the torque bindings are better than whatever bindings you're getting with the obrien board. you seriously need to check out ebay, I've gotten some killer deals on there.

yup the extra money is in the Torq bindings and they are worth it IMO. Bindings are very important, so just make shur you are getting a good cumfy set of bindings with your new board.

I'd rather ride a crap board with good bindings then crap bindings and a good board!
