Home-made tower speakers

For everyone who is always asking how to make homemade towerspeakers, here are some that I made from aluminum tubing with a fiberglass backing to seal the otherside. It was tricking to make the aluminum square tubing to mount to the tower but it is possible. Let me know if anyone is interested in making something similar. Enjoy

They're panasonics, run with a 4-channel no name amp it works really well though plenty loud

good job! now you gotta get that wire snaked through the inside of the tower tube

minor details i was dying to see if they would work and what they would sound like and also it seemed like a crime to drill a hole through the outside fiberglass of my brand new boat but i'm doing in the offseason

how much did it end up costing you? I can't beleive how absolutely outrageous the prices are for tower speakers.

i bought the speakers at a flea market so i didn't pay more than $75 for both sets of speakers and the aluminum pipe and square tubing came from a valve manufacturing company (through a friend of mine) so the project was fairly cheap, i couldn't stand to spend $800-$1000 on the same set up pre - built if you can find people willing to give you the aluminum tubing, it can be cheap

Those look damn good. I was thinking of doing similar or all fiberglass. I will have to look into local valve manufacturing companies.

search ebay for speaker cans, 100 bucks for a much better look.

Kyle do you have a pic of the back side of your tower speakers. I was wanting to get a closer look at how you sealed up the end of the can.

Here's some pictures of my home built enclosure with Pro Audio components. It definitely rocks. Looking for a mold expert to take it to the next step.

It is a hybrid construction of fiberglass and aircraft quality components creating a very structurally sound enclosure. The loaded weight of it is about 63 lbs, but that should come down a bit with more refining.

i havent seen this but has anyone mounted 12" subs like directly downward mounted on the tower?...curious

i'll try and get some this weekend to put up, it's just clear fiberglass that we cut into the circle and then cut a smaller ridge on one side, about half the fiberglass, so it would sit inside the aluminum tube, then just used some countersincted screws to keep it, i'm trying to put some blue led lights inside the tube that could be seen at night for a cool effect, but haven't got to it yet

"DUAL" makes speakers with blue lights..ive mounted them in my truck and dim them down to 6volts for night ..suttle but nice..and during the day the full 12 vlts makes a nice effect
