tower question

From a complete novice here's a question...I'm gonna build a tower but would really like to mount it towards the rear of my 20' fish and ski. Rarely have I seen a tower mounted towards the rear...mostly towards the middle or ahead of the middle is how I've seen em' mounted (must be a reason,huh?)No big plans on being a "serious" wakeboarder but would like to and also need the handy storage for all my other water toys etc. so...good idea,bad idea or neither. School me!

Why do want to mount it at the rear of the boat? I don't think it would look rite if you did mount it there....I'm sure there is a picture out there somewhere.

We put a tower on our old boat, and it ended up being closer to the rear. We wanted it in the normal even-with-windshield position, but the shop but the front end where the back mount should have been. Anyway it ended up not being all that bad, though it did look a bit strange. It seemed to pull fine, but it did have a tendency to get the rope stuck in front of the racks when pulling around to get a rider. But if you're careful you should be fine. I would still recommend going for the more forward position, but if you really want in the rear (actually easier to get the boards down) you should be okay. Here's the pic; it was a 20 footer as well.

I remember when towers first came out. i thought they looked kinda silly. maybe it was because it was new and the towers were not of the "sleekest" designs. but i would dare say that if the towers had originally been mounted in back... then maybe it would have stayed that way. maybe it is more of what we are used to then a functional thing. The only functional thing i can think of in regurads to boat performance is that if you have a rider who cuts out really far and hard that maybe the boat will be pulled more off-course than if the pull came from closer to the middle... even so, i think that any "pulling off-course" would be minimal. just a guess

as for towers looking weird to me in the beginning... now any boat i see without one looks naked ;)
