2010 slingshot arcane

a little pricey is it worth it???

I have seen the board in person and man that board is THICK!! I would guess to say that it is almost 3" thick and heavy. I would say that is is the heaviest surfboard that I have ever picked up. Looks good, but I am not sure how it will sell.

I had a ride on it and it is a great surf style board. I prefer skim style but it is the best surfer i have ridden. (Not many other boards to be fair)

Buddy of mine just bought one, he's not sure if he likes it. Kinda heavy. If you like a skim/surf style you prob. won't be happy with it. Looks like strictly a surf style board.

The board gets a luke warm response here but I demo'd one and loved it.

Pretty darn expensive.

iv only tryed a liquid force venture and just found it very difficult to stay on the wake i would get either to close to the boat of fall away from the wake i got it after awhile but it just felt off like it i didnt have enough flotation. i way like 170 and am 6ft

Hopefully more people will be getting on the Arcane soon as the weather gets nicer, but since the board didn't launch until January, very few lucky riders have had the chance.

Anyway, here's some insight on the board that should be helpful.

Slingshot's goal with the Arcane was to create a custom board with all of the performance and rider friendly characteristics of a trunk style fish, designed specifically for wakesurfing that won’t heel dent, or snap in half after a couple rides.

Using only top of the line materials, it’s constructed with a complex layering system called a wood veneer sandwich. Starting with a super lightweight foam core, which is wrapped in a lightweight glass, the board is then sandwiched between dense layers of wood (bamboo), and finished with a final layer of glass to reinforce the rails. Along each step, we also use vacuum bagging techniques that enhance the bonding strength. The result is less weight, much more durability, controlled flex, and earth friendly.

The thickness of the board is due to the immense amount of volume we’ve crammed into a 21” wide 5’0” to optimize performance. With a full concave top deck, and a double to single concave bottom, you get an ultra rider friendly board that is extremely maneuverable, and holds speed whether you’ve got thousands of pounds of ballast, or no additional weight at all. It comes as a quad fin, but changing the fin configuration provides many different riding characteristics from hard driving speed and performance to a skim style skatey feel.

Most other custom wakesurfers comparable to the Arcane performance wise range from $600 - $800, and are constructed with PU or PVC foams and epoxy resins that unfortunately are very toxic, and not very durable. Using this method to replicate an Arcane’s durability and performance would result in an extremely heavy board that is still very fragile.

At $549, we feel the Arcane is the best wakesurfer you can buy.

Sounds like Inland's process save for the Bamboo instead of pine. But, concerned about the statement:

Epoxy isn't toxic especially compared to Polyester or Vinyl ester - what resin would Arcane be using? Also Epoxy is propably the most durable resin available. PolyUrethane foams are notorious for breaking down and heel dents, especially in 2-3# density, but PVC foams like Divinycell at 5# density or heavier are structural and plenty durable for riding on. Also, neither of those are toxic unless you burn them

i dont have problems with the 3# eps i use with epoxy and a 4/6 schedule top and bottom , also done in the vac bag.

Alright my buddy is now saying the Arcane is not what he likes. Rode it a few times and tried to give it a chance, but it was way too heavy and slow. Thats just his opinion

i saw one of these at M2 on Lake Conroe and the thing is HUGE. i can't imagine how it isn't slow and hard to move based on how big and heavy it is. haven't rode one though, so...

I just talked to my buddy who got one and then returned it the same day. Like I told him that it was heavy and bulky, but he is hardheaded and had to see for himself. And like I mentioned, he said that it was super slow and heavy and not as easy to spin or get air. the one time he did get air the board popped up and hit him on the shin giving him a nice purple/black spot. I do not ever seeing that board in my quiver.

is their anyone else with their opinion on the board , please do tell.

Worst board I've ever ridden, slow, heavy, and doesn't fit in any of my wakesurf racks. I'd look elsewhere if I were you.

Jack I'll keep the Arcane in mind when I'm ready to karate chop a wakesurf board.

So sad. The Arcane is a fun surf driven shape but it is a little heavy for my taste. I couldn't get it to pop like the custom. I have one of the first 4'10" boards ever made. It is dented and even cracked in the middle but it hasn't broken.

I am stoked to see the next video. Slingshot is going to put the Arcane up against the Hyperlite Swell, Byerly Hazard, Ronix Cortez and Liquid Force Venture. I heard they are going to get Hong Kong Phooey to make a cameo. We will see who comes out on top.

Rode the Arcane last night...

I actually found it very fast. It may just have been the wake we were on was very steep (Epic 23v).

Yes, it is very heavy compared to other good surf style boards. It took a lot of effort to get the board into the air. The tail design was my favorite part, it turned on a dime, almost thought I'd be able to do some cut backs. The Epic wake is very steep and really easy to pearl other boards but I didn't get this one to pearl once. The one advantage I found for the thick design.

Would be a board I'd ride again for sure.
