Canon Body Calibration

Has anybody had to send their camera body in for calibration? If so, do you have any suggestions on how to expedite this process? I've been reading some forums where people had to send their body in 3 different times before Canon got it right.

So I upgraded from a 300D to a 400D about a year ago. This camera is not under warranty so I guess I'm also asking about calibration cost. My lenses were all sharp with the old body which is leading me to believe it is the new body (and not the lenses) that need calibrating.

Here is one of my focus test shots.

I've never heard of Canon calibrating a Rebel, will they even do it?

Plus focus test with a 50 f1.8??? I never felt that lens would focus on the same spot twice in a row to begin with. Looks like it front focused a bit in that shot.

A 10mp sensor is going to show more diffraction, subtle camera movement and lens imperfections then a 6mp (or whatever the 300 had in it) Also Canon has gotten more aggressive with their anti aliasing filters on higher pixel count sensors as time's gone on (which means more in cam or PP sharpening to get the same acuity level) It all may be contributing to what you're seeing.

You could probably buy another used xti for what Canon might charge along with the shipping or move up to a body that offers lens calibration.

Why wouldn't they work on a Rebel? I know a lot of the DPReview folks that own this series of camera have had theirs calibrated.

I had the same results with the kit lens and my 70-200 f/4 on the front focusing. I only have 3 lenses so I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to do for a focus test.

Thanks Rich. I guess that was part of my question. I don't know what Canon charges for a calibration. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it or not.

If all your lens are front focusing and Canon will do it for a reasonable cost then it would probably be worth it. There's no way you should be happier with the original rebel then the XTi.
