A lot of stereo gurus on here, looking to upgrade the factory unit in the tow vehicle.

Has anyone heard of a double-din DVD head unit with HDMI in?? Multiple video outputs would be good too.

Doesn't need navi or a hard drive or the expensive bells and whistles. Just got an HTC EVO and looking to run this through some type of head unit. I figure the EVO will pretty much handle everything I need to do and just needs screens, amps, and speakers to take care of the business end inside the Superduty.

Thanks

I am guessing the EVO charges via USB and can be mounted as a storage device? If so most radios today have a USB input. That is how I have the radio in my truck hooked up. You can watch the movies or listen to the mp3s on it on my phone with the radio. I am sure there are some much more knowledgeable folks who will chime in though. No idea on the HDMI deal though.

Yeah, but I want to unleash the power of Droid. I can use it for Navi, movies, Slingbox, Sirius/XM, and about a million other things and spit the display out over the integrated HDMI out on the EVO.

I haven't seen any car stereos that have an HDMI input. Cool idea though using the droid.

you may be able to get away using something like this.

I have a cheapie screen/dvd with AUX/DVD/USB/bluetooth in on it...... for just music purposes I got a 32gb mp3 player from china - loaded it up, hooked it to the usb and it powers on with the headunit, and all my music/folders/songs/etc show up on the screen and I just scroll/touch what I want.... works great for music.

I have a droid and just have that in the car (once in a while will pandora through AUX)... but otherwise just have it in the car as is.... getting phones to work with screens is touch because they have soooooo much going on that with mine, the USB goes nuts from thje phone

Yeah, that Amazon link might do the trick. I was figuring I might have to use some type of converter as I've never heard of deck with HDMI in (yet).

Another hurdle I just stumbled upon since I just got the mini HDMI cable last night and pluged it into my home TV is that HTC/Sprint/EVO have the display locked to only the crummy apps apparently for fears of DRM. So basically you can play movies and do slideshow and that's about it right now.

I have every confidence that in very near future *someone* will release an app to mirror the phone's display out through the hdmi. I though it did that out of the box and thought I had a setting wrong until I finally Googled and then played a movie I had just taken. May need to root the phone to do it, but I'm sure it will be out soon.
