I would think it would come through the holes if you were heavy on your back foot

It all depends on the board, your skill level, and your preference. Some boards may ride better without the fins if you're advanced enough to handle it.

A lot of people/pros take the fins off when they really want to make themselves dial in a move. Having less traction in the water makes you do everything exactly right to be able to stand up the move and ride away. Then, the next time you do the move with fins, it's a piece of cake.

I just got the new Temet. I would never take the fins off because it rides so loose in the water. Like I said, it depends on the board, rider, and skill level. It's all personal.

Chris,
It depends a lot on your board too. Some boards have channels and what not that cause them to track better, so fins are not always needed. Also depends a lot on the riders ability and preferences. I consider myself a fairly descent rider, but don't like the board to slip at all. So I have fairly big fins on it. Try it see if you like it or not. Check out our website we have done quite a bit of research on fins: www.cdifins.com

Skiing made me board,

Lyle,
Killer website by the way. I ride CDI's fins and really like the way the ROYAL tracks through the water for bigger moves. Chris, sounds like you might want to try something more like the "Collin Wright" if you are on the verge of finless.
