so I was looking at the what board to get posts. but I have some more general questions if anyone can help me out.. I tried wakeskating on my friends LF wakeskate today and I had a blast! I was barefoot, got up on my first attempts and just had a great fun time riding it around... so now, here are my questions:

1. I see that they have wakeskating shoes, are these shoes different than any pair of skate shoes that you buy anywhere?

2. What is the right length board for someone that is 6 foot, 200 lbs

3. what are the different grips for the top of the boards? are some better than others?

4. Are there different material of boards? whats the differences and is weight a factor in wakeskates?

Congratulations! you may never strap again.

1. Wakeskate shoes are engineered to drain quickly, but you can use any damn shoes you like. I use Asics top sevens, they are mesh with gum soles.

2. The right length depends not only on height and weight, but if you plan to do more technical or wtw tricks (generally, shorter for tech and longer for wtw). Any length between 41 and 43 is good for your build, its all pretty much preference.

3. There are two main ones that I know of, Rubber foam and grip tape. There are also some slight variations in rubber grip materials. I started with rubber grip and ended up switching to grip tape, again, this is just preference.

4. There are wood boards, compression molded (like wakeboards) and hybrids made of various materials and weights. I personally love the Integrity 2005 team model. It has centered weight for more spin control on its center of gravity. This board is 7lbs. You don't want the board too ight because there is a danger of losing it during wtw tricks. Again, you just have to try different boards because it is all personal preference. The Gator Board lineup looks progressive for next year!

Go to wakeskating.com for wakeskate-oriented discussion, there is a large knowlwedge and experience base there. I hope this helps

That was really good.. I appreceate the info.. do most board shops demo wakeskates? That might be the best route so that I can see what sort of grip, lengh and board contruction that I like.

I know the ones in North Carolina do. I would imagine any place that wants to sell boards would have demos. That probably would be the best way.

Congrats & Welcome to the strapless world, Isaac. Like cosmo said, you may never be bound again!

For shoes, Like cosmo said, any (skate) shoes will really do, but once you ride with some good draining mesh type shoes, you won't believe the difference. You can find some great deals on Zappos.com Look for DVS Dresdens, Milans, or Freemonts in mesh...you won't be disappointed.

Blindside did make a wakeskate, but since they were sold out to a company in Australia, i havn't fond a place that sells them or double-up.
