Nope. Wear a pair under the wetsuit so something is covering my package when I take the suit off. Wearing 2 suits is one too many.

No/Against = Let your junk bulge freely for the world to see.

No way. (If your tricks are good enough, no one's lookin' at your board shorts anyway).

When Mike Parsons is dropping into Cortez Bank, I don't think anyone's thinking about his lower half in the wetsuit.

If wakeboarders should wear shorts over their wetsuits, then why not surfers? And don't give me the lifejacket reason!
Old     (jcv)      Join Date: Oct 2005       02-01-2008, 11:15 AM Reply
Easy answer: distance. They don't have to share a boat with 5 dudes after their set is up, and rarely will any spectator be within 80 ft. of them on a wave.
Old     (ottog1979)      Join Date: Apr 2007       02-01-2008, 11:46 AM Reply
Jeff,

Distance - Not true. At Cortez Bank or Mavericks maybe. But in a good overhead swell anywhere on the coast, other surfers are shootin' right past you down the line within 5-6 feet often.

It's funny. Go up & down the SD coastline and any given day, every day, you'll find hundreds of surfers changing at the car, walking across the road through crowds, on the beach and into the water. Not one with board shorts over the suit. And not one thought about it. Makes the wakeboarding debate seem weird.

No. This makes no sense to me unless your talking about stripping naked first to put your shorts over your suit.

It's like basketball jerseys over t-shirts or shorts over g-strings. What's the point?

Maybe my junks just not big enough to offend or you guys need some trim on your boat to offset your gaydar.

I have done both, as a former surfer I tend to just go sans shorts with a fullsuit, shorty is all about shorts. It's pretty retarded that people would actually be concerned about looking at a bulge. What do you guys do at the gym?

Wearing shorts under a wetsuit has got to be the most uncomfortable thing ever. Why would anyone do that? Balls like to roam free, like the buffalo.
Old     (fatsac)      Join Date: Jun 2004       02-01-2008, 12:58 PM Reply
It's dumb to think we're concerned with how it looks but imho, seeing someone ride without is like watching a fat seal out of water. It just looks funny... and I chuckle. Depending on the size of the rider, the chuckle turns into snorting. To each their own but if it's too cold for a heater top, I'm wearing a drysuit.

I already voted yes, but my question is, if it hasn't been asked yet, is who was the "first one" to throw on the shorts over the suit? Who started the trend........?

one of the last 100 times this was discussed someone posted the best picture of a guy in a wetsuit w/o shorts on over it bent over and his balls were all bulging out anyone have that pic ? It's awesome

I didn't even know people really did this until I saw pictures. Count me against. If I'm so preoccupied with staring at man meat that I need my fellow riders to wear shorts over their suit, then I guess I'm just going to have to come to terms with a few things I didn't want to admit about myself. I'll probably also have to cancel my gym membership since there's always that old guy that I swear just hangs out naked in the locker room all day. Until then, I'll wear my wetsuit how everyone else in the civilized world (except for some wakeboarders apparently) wears them.

Seems like it'd make it harder to pull the wetsuit back down when it rides up on you, so so I vote NO. Don't really care about the fashion statement or reasons...

Board shorts over your wetsuit? is it lame "yes" do you ever see surfers warring board shorts over their wetsuit no because it stupid and it make you look like a kook. Look if your that concerned or that selfconscious about your shrink-ij down there south of the equator you mite just want to stay out of the water until its warmer or until your man enough not care what size your GOODS are down there and just go out and ride. Besides the girls think wetsuits are hot! So in conclusion never wear board shorts over your wetsuit it makes you look like a kook and no one like a kook.

without a vest, i'd have no problem wearing a full suit without shorts. surfers would look like idiots with shorts, no doubt.

with a vest (i've never worn a suit thick enough to not require a vest), i wouldn't be caught dead without shorts. it has nothing to do with "junk", it just looks stupid. you know, kind of top-heavy. and for what it's worth, as happy as you are with yourself down there, i can assure you, the girls don't find it sexy...in the least. so spare your ladies, please

As a Wakeboarder and surfer, I share Jeff Vaaler's point of view.

I know a guy who ALWAYS wears the following outfit when wakeboarding: fullsuit sans shorts, vest AND a Superscrappy HELMET with the shield pointing forward. He's my favourite so far

Anyway, I love this thread

Spent a lot of time surfing as a kid, and now wakeboarding as an adult. All my friends still winter ride here in Nor Cal. If you where shorts over your wetsuit around us, your gonna get made fun of pretty badly....so a def. no, never have, and never will.

I could just imagine walking onto Huntington Beach wearing shorts over your wetsuit..hillarious
