Why did he have his arm through the handle?

What's the point of doing that besides hurting yourself?

When I originally watched that clip during the week I thought to myself that he had got his arm out just in time. Wonder if he would have got hurt if it was still thru the handle when he fell??

chris, stuffing an arm thru the handle is super painful. No real way to end well. As for doing a roll to blind with the handle in the crook of your elbow, the reason for doing it is that it's ill as hell. thats why.

I have accidently fallen and put my arm through a handle on a wrapped BS180 and lets just say I am thankful my right arm is still attached and functioning.

My son was working on a wrapped move also and put his arm thru the handle as he fell. Luckily, the rope snapped rather than his humerus. He tore his biceps muscle and generally screwed up his upper arm. It kept him from boarding for about 4 weeks.

The rider is obviously a fool. Having talent does not exclude you from being an imbecile that should be eliminated from the gene pool.

But hey, if he wants to destroy his arm, I guess that's fine with me as long as he doesn't get in my way and he has insurance so our taxes don't t have to pay for his injuries.

To answer the question, at cable sometimes you want to give your hands a break, but you're half a lap away from the obstacle you want to hit. Its not unusual to see people (mostly confident riders) putting their arm through the handle, wrapping it to the opposite hip or even putting the handle between the legs.

Yeah?? When does that ever happen?? And how exactly is he going to get in your way? By flying 10 feet over your head maybe.
It might not be the smartest thing to do but he is not a fool.

Not wearing a vest is stupid, not wearing a helmet when your hitting rails is stupid, putting your head through the rope is stupid. I wouldn't necessarily put what nick davies was doing in the category of stupid. Maybe dangerous but not as you put it

i think this thread is getting a lil rediculous with namecallings.

i'll just say that nick davies is a rally sick rider, but i dont recommend what he is doing to anyone. even if he werent doing a move, it is very dangerous to fall with your arm in the handle

i'm not freaking out. i just figure, wakeboarding is a sport. to place your arm in the handle for the excuse that you're arm is tired is lame.

and i've seen even pros go down while they're just riding.

Wow, no wonder the pro's only lurk on here and occasionally post. Some seriously lame monday morning quaterbacking from people who have NO WHERE NEAR the skill, experience or frame of reference as these guys. When I was at O-dub it was extremely common to see guys holding the handle in several places other than their hands. George why don't you, focus on your riding and worry less about what others are doing.

Personally I think the risk reward just isn't there to ride with your arm through the handle in any situation I can think of. But this is America and if you want to risk potential dismemberment, don't let anyone on here stop you. But the post above is right, I am not a pro and am sure their risk reward thinking is a lot different than mine and is certainly one of the reasons why they get paid to ride and I don't.

Doesn't everybody place their arm in the handle when they are tired?? I do. That whole cool thing of just putting your wrists on the handle does nothing for me!

Now dangerous is my old man who puts his rear foot from a slalom ski in the handle and then lets go of the handle with his hands. Cool trick but not something I would recommend. haha
