I have a prostar 205, i have a bow sac on the floor right now but would like to do away witht that and put a sac under each seat, what size should i go with and how much weight do u think i can get out of that.
Your not going to get very much weight out of sacks hidden under the seats. You will be lucky to get them filled to half capacity. But I guess two at half capacity will equal the one in the bow by itself. Have you thought about lead?
I had the integrated bow sac in a 2000 205V. I was never able to fill it all the way- I got maybe 1/2 or so. It starts to lift the seat cushions up and pops the 2 cupholders out. It's better than nothing though. Whatever it's rated at full figure 50-60% of that to be conservative.
I used to have about 150 lbs of old gym weights in the bow of my 205. Plastic ones were great. And we wrapped the steel ones in heavy plastic so we never saw any rust out of them.
I use 2 550lb sacs under the bow seats - 1 on each side. They each probably get filled about 1/3 to 1/2 full. The advantage of 2 sacs is that they are easier to conform to specific bow areas and are generally longer and go further back which means you can add a little more weight. Also you can customize side to side weight with 2 sacs if your boat likes a little more weight on one side. Of course if you fill and drain each time you go out, you have to do it 2x instead of one with a v-sac. The cost is probably the same as one bow v sac is roughly the same price as 2 plane Jane sacs. Since I keep mine on a lift I just keep them filled most of the season so the draining and filling is really not an issue. I also use a little bit of iron up front too.
