I have a 2006 x2 that i've had for 3 years. Everything on the boat is in perfect condition except for all the stitching is coming apart! I use the boat alot, in the salt water and never put the cover on (i have to clean it after every use and putting on the cover would not allow it to dry properly) I've had boats my entire life and never had this type of problem but none of them have been wakebaording boats. I realize that a lake boat may not be designed for this kind of abuse and that is why I'm asking for opinions. Would this happen to any wakeboard boat or should I complain and make them fix it?

Sound like Warranty should cover it and probably will.

if you use a degreaser type cleaner (409 etc) i've heard it will eat the stitching completely out of your seats... you may have the source if you've been cleaning w/ that type cleaner

I had an '03 X9. After 2 years same thing happened, however, mine was just on the backseat, and was used on freshwater only, and I always used my cover. Now I have an '07 X45 and I am starting to experience this in one small area in the bow. I only use approved cleaners and take good care of my boats. My 45 is currently at my dealer still waiting on this issue to be taken care of. I have a friend who experienced this problem on his X-star. I do not hear of this happening on other inboard manufacturers boats, near as frequently as I do with MC's. You would think they would come up with a solution to this. It is very frustating spending hard earned dollars on a boat only to have the stitching go to hell as soon as the one year warranty expires.

I am a Diehard MC guy. I think that MC needs to increase the "bumper to bumper" to 3 years. 1 year is not enough for a premium product.

matt c ...ya that is exactly what MC does. We already know how much you hate MC and everything about them. What boat do you own this week?

Owned a few different MC boats. Never had a problem or heard of this before.

Like Patrick said certain cleaners that aren't meant for boats can eat away stitching. Other than that I can't figure out why that would happen to the stitching. Unless maybe the boat set out in the sun all the time. The sun can be very harsh on boats.

This is pretty typical. I have had 6 MC's and all of them had small issues with the stitching and vinyl at some point. Only once did MC balk at fixing something though. I'd like to pick on MC's vinyl but really, there isn't 1 manufacturer out there that I have seen, that has perfect vinyl. Nautique is probably my favorite but even those have some issues. I highly recommend bucking up for seat covers to eliminate about 90% of any potential problems. That and never allowing shoes and such in the boat.

I had this problem on the 01 X30 that I had. It was a bad batch of vinyl for a three to four years. I have a 06 Star now and so far no issues yet. It was a well known problem for years with MasterCraft. I hope its not happening again?????

ya, my vinyl started disintegrating on a few seats and rear deck last summer at the stitching. the dealership said it should not happen after 4 years but said MC wouldnt do anything about it. then the dealer told me they had some newer boats with the same problem. then they told me i had to order the vinyl then, in the fall, cuz MC only stocks vinyl for 4 years,,,,so $2500 later....
