Well I am planning on making a slider, and need to know how to anchor it. It will be in shallow water and in soft mud. I dont want to make it float. So how do I go about securing it.

anchor the posts into the mud and then use 2x4s at 90 degree angles to secure the posts.

Use 4x4s for the main posts. Cut a point into the end, pound the posts in as far as you can, then cut the post to the right height (which will also remove the mushroomed over top)

Include diagonal braces from post to post to help stabilize the structure.

Clarke,

4x4's for the main posts
2x4's along the side to tie all 4x4's together
2x8 across the top to complete the slider & seal everything together
Landscape / lawn bender board for the top ( cheap / easy material to use )

* for side braces 2x4's as Rod said. Also depending how tall the slider is we used 8 foot landscape / tree stakes & drove them in 5 + feet to provide extra support to the 4x4's - its solid as a rock.

Here's the basics.

Thanks. how hard is it to get those in the ground? Just a sledge hammer will do?
