Have you seen how the guys in the Wakeboarding section have been ragging on surfing? Dont they realise that surfing is to wakeboarding as wakeboarding was to slolom skiing back in the day. Us old time slolom skiers hated wakeboarders, and the huge rollers they produced. Funny how things come around full circle. Just saying. Its funny to see how some people think that surfing is "Gay" and takes no real skills. Each sport has its own skill levels and capabilities. I'm sure that Chase or James may not be able to do some incredible Wakeboard trick, but I dought that Rusty or Parks can do a Big Spin either. Leave it alone guys, surfing is here to stay, and growing faster than wakeboarding. Think your just going to have to deal with us.

Why care what they have to say...

The fact of the matter, and I think industry is starting to figure this out, is that wakeboarding is a young man's game. Seldom do I see 40+ year old boarding. Frequently do I see 40+ year olds surfing. I personally know a lot of 40 year olds who are enjoying the water again due to surfing.

And I'm willing to bet that far more 40+ year olds buy new boats compared to 18-30 year olds in the prime of their health, showing off their skills and taking the hard landings that will eventually lead them to slow down and surf in a few years. I personally have several friends, 40+ year old, with plenty of disposable income, who bought boats the past two years specifically because of surfing. They could give a damn about boarding....

37 and 4 kids....haven't put a wakeboard on my feet this year at all. Doing 360s now and loving every minute. Surfing may be "old man" but damn it is fun and easy on the knees and face plants. Love it, and where can you wakeboard with beer in hand? lol

Why cant you believe "us guys" that have negative things to say about wakesurfing? Truly the industry is figuring out the wake surfing niche, no doubt. Just like pharmaceutical companies like lipitor and cialis have figured out the prime time that the clients they are targeting watch TV. Surf if you want, no problem in my book, but just like towing anything behind the boat, be responsible about it considering other boaters around you. That's one of the main points made in the thread going on here: http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=794777

My main concern in my first post in that thread is those new to watersports may not be presented the opportunity to do something more with their potential talent on the water if they are in a wake surfing environment only. Using your example, a rich, out of shape, 40+ year old only wants to surf on his $100k wake boat, get fat eating brats and burgers on his $400k+ houseboat and only introduces one activity to family/friends on his wake boat is doing them an injustice in my opinion. There are alot of athletes with talent that would excel in watersport activities, but they never get the chance if dad only inflates the tube or tosses the surf board out every time. You never know if one of your kids could be the next Harley Clifford. Furthermore, I truly believe higher speed water sports such as skiing and wakeboard are much more physically demanding and promote healthier lifestyles than wake surfing. That is all.

Doing it all. Just returned from vacation and had quite a few epic days. 3 grand slams were had a slalom run, a wakeboard run, a surf set, and then a few hours playing on the jet skiis. This boating thing sure is fun if you veture out and attack them all. Signed former jet ski hater

I still wakeboard when there is good water. I'm not all that great on a wakeboard but it definitely gets the adrenaline going a little more than the surfboard does. Even though I have taken some hard crashes on the wakeboard and they hurt more, I've actually beat myself up more on the surfboard (believe it or not). One year the board caught me in the eye and swelled it shut and last weekend I tried to do an aerial 360 and landed with the board between my arm and my ribcage somehow, nice solid 7" bruise on my ribs/side. Surfing is lower impact to a point...just don't get too crazy! LOL!

who cares if you surf or board? We should be trying to promote water sports as a whole

Now the drivers all need to be aware that other people are out on the lake too.... tubers need to try and keep away from the boarders.... surfers need to try not to ruin the water for all boats.... boarders need to stop power turning....

Its not all one sport ruining another. We all need to be aware of others so we can all enjoy our time on the water

More physically demanding? Try surfing a skim board on a small wake!
