Hi Everyone, so I have a NXT22 and had purchased a really nice stereo for it. 2 Arc Audio Amps to drive the stock JL interiors and the JLw3 Sub and my Rev10's on the tower. There is also a Wetsounds EQ as well.

The sub is inside the massive compartment behind the observer seat. The stereo is REALLY loud but when the observer seat is closed up, you mide as well not even have the sub because you cannot hear it.

NXT, XT and other modern MC boat owners, where are you placing your sub? We were going to add the Roswell vent and cut out a hole just under the observer seat in the glass but I don't think that will be enough vent space to let Bass into the boat to balance out the sound.

Help me out..

Can you mount a shallow truck-style sub box in the captains footwell? That's what a lot of us do.

This is what I have in my boat . I have 1 under the observer seat and 1 under the helm.

The best place to put a sub is in your next boat which isn't a Mastercraft.

Kidding. Actually the secret here is getting enough ventilation. I had the same exact problem in my boat. My two 12's would only beat the heck out of the observer's back and not let any sound out until I committed to cutting out a large hole. I've seen all the different grills available, but none of them are really large enough. I may still cut out under the observer's seat as well. More vent=more sound.

did you do it yourself or have a shop do it?

I had a shop do it, but I bought the metal, had it powder coated, had them cut, install and upholster it. I could have done it all except the upholstery, but why when that's all they do? Here's a halfway pic. Hope it makes sense.

The bigger message I was trying to convey is just how important the square footage of your opening is. It's honestly, directly proportional to how much audible bass you will hear if your sub(s) is/are in the observer's compartment. One of my upcoming winter projects will be to open the areas below the observer's feet as well.

A good test for this whole theory is opening the observer's seat and hearing how much better it sounds. That should be all the proof you need to understand what I'm talking about. You can thank David-formerly of Earmark (David analog), for this advice. His original advice was to open below the observer's feet first and then consider the walk through however, I'm more than content with my order of doing it. My primary concern was relief for the observer's kidneys every time a kick drum hit.

so how much do you want to open up under the observers seat? I just have a fear of cutting out a 3 foot section of a brand new boat

Oh believe me. I lost sleep on this. Glad I nutted up and did it though. My ears thank me every time I listen. As for under the observer's seat, it really depends on the boat. On my 230, I plan to cut at least one 10"X7" opening and have it match the walk through trim, but it'll probably be two of those openings. The second one will be a little further down the port side by a few inches. Btw, no gel cracks at all and this work was done 100+ hours ago and we weight it HEAVY for surfing. I would NEVER cut 3' wide out below the seats though. You'd ruin your boat.
