We are looking for the best location for a 1 week wakeboarding/camping trip. We live in So Cal and are looking to go in mid-late August. The priorities are: *BUTTER *SCENERY *DISTANCE (1 DAY DRIVE)

Lake Powell. 9-10 hour drive , Butter all day long, scenery cant be better, Sandy beaches perfect for camping. Dangling Rope and Wahweap have all your gas, food, ice. etc etc. I know its a stretch driving wise, but there is nothing better.

I would have to agree with Chavez and say Shasta, Shasta... SHASTA! It is awsome. You will never forget or regret it.

delta/powell/shasta shasta's great and all, but i'd pick powell over shasta any day of the week, and twice on sunday! you won't understand until you go there.

I stayed at shasta on a monday-friday in the obrien inlet of the sacremento arm and everything was awsome. Perfect conditions. I can imagine it getting really busy on the weekends with some of the pictures that I have seen floating around this site.

It was 104* on Shasta today. I can't imagine camping in that heat. DK

Obviously not in the same class as delta/shasta/powell....Buenavista. Ranks good in terms of butter and distance, light on scenery. The drive though...even with traffic you're talking less than half a day. The camping is SOOOO easy there, too. http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/bv.htm (Message edited by toyotafreak on July 29, 2004)

Not as nice as Powell, a few hours closer, and no crowds... 1 hour past the hoover damn, towards Kingman AZ... Temple Bar Marina. You can get a hotel room, or a "cabin" and keep your boat in a slip. Or you can drive your drive across the lake to boat camp. Burro bay and stripper bay used to be great spots in 2001. With the water down, it will be different, but still good I am sure. You can call temple bar marina and get info..

Lake Naciemento (near Paso Robles) - Close to SoCal (4 Hours while towing) Rent a house in Oak Shores $1500-2000 for a decent house for a week), during the weekdays, there are like 5 boats on lake. If, you get tired boarding, theres golf and a brewery close. Just went there last month, put a good 4-5 hours a day on the new boat.

not bad. it deffinately drops throghout the season.. But so do all the "dammed" lake in CA. I think when we were the the lake was at like 37% capacity. But parts of the lake are still 150+ feet deep. All lake hazards and shallow spots are all marked very well. I had no problems with anythig like that.

*BUTTER *SCENERY *DISTANCE (1 DAY DRIVE) Powell, Shasta, Delta. The Delta would not be real high on your #2 priority. Butter can be found at all choices. Distance. Delta wins, then Shasta and Powell about the same I would say.
