Tips on buildind sliders where there is a tide

My work was throwing out about 15 4x4s, 12 feet long so I took them and am going to build a couple of sliders(beginner status). Anyone have any tips on building them on the delta as far as sinking them, and what tide would be a good time to size them up as far as height goes? This will be more of an experimental build and more 4x4s are always coming in.
