It really depends on the boat. You don't have to remove the lengths to shorten the rope, just loop it where you want it. Personally I ride behind a Sanger V210 fully weighted. I usually ride that boat at 23.7 m.p.h. @ 70 feet of rope, same goes for a weighted Malibu Wake Setter VLX. If I'm riding behind a Super Air Nautique, or in a tournament, I usually ride about 75 feet. I suggest since you have a small wake I would start at 60 feet and work your way out until you find the sweet spot.
