Anyone using to pull their boats? Don't want full size SUV and these have the V8 option w 235-275HP for 03'-05's we are lookin at. Tow weight max is 7000 and our set up is 4600 w all the stuff ect.. in the boat. Have seen a few at the ramps and people I have talked to love them. I have been 4 wheelin in a 03' and it was a real performer off road.

We have an 04 2wd and it does fine but it would be better with a tandem axle trailer. Gas mileage sucks though. I am talking 6mpg

do a search. I think this topic was covered. If memory serves me, the v8's are fine for towing.

read the archive thread and some good points. In talking to a friend who has a foreign repair shop and a tow business and he says the 8cyl motor in 235hp or 275hp is plenty of power and that Toyota beefed upped the brakes for 03,04 and have improved even more for 05-08 models. We currently pull with full size Ford E150 van w V8 but has alot of miles so we thought the 4Runner could serve as a back up and possibly full time tow if we had to. They have the same engine thats in the Sequoia.

I leased an '06 V6 with zero problems and no complaints. Gas averages 19 or so between town and highway. Expect 12 - 15 towing close to 4k lbs. Braking is great and at 40k, I have yet to replace.
On the next go around, even though I prefer an old school set up, I'll probably opt for the four door Tundra.
The 4 Runner is a great rig and suprising how many features you get in the Limited. I would take it over many higher priced SUVs any day of the week.

My wife has a toyota 4runner that we have used to pull our Malibu 23 LSV and it works great. She does have the 4 WD with the V8 and it does help with pulling the boat out of the water. Great SUV to consider for reliability and pulling boats.

I have a 2008 4runner with the 5K tow package, my boat and trailer weigh in at around the 4500lb range and it tow's well, I generally only tow 10 miles from the storage unit to the ramp and then 75 miles to the dealership, but it does it a lot better then my 1999 Tacoma V6 did!

Next time I may opt for the V8 but I have no complaints with the 4.0 V6.

I only use mine in the spring and fall, in/out. But it works great and is a great vehicle.

getting other good reviews and feedback for braking and stability when towing. as far as general driving ALL feedback and our test drives are fantastic! we drove one around in heavy rain yesterday and no unstable feel in corners ect.. like it was a slot car on the track. from the last replies sounds like we found our truck. TKS for all feedback. Soon the water will be warmin' up.
