I use a ProTec, do they make them small for kids? I really just wear one because it is the dayglow yellow one so people can see me, it has the ear guards to I don't bust an eardrum, and I have a noseplug tied to it that I use. For crashes, I think it makes them worse because of the increased surface area. Adults probably only really need to wear one if you are sliding docks or other obstacles. For kids, I would only get one if you think their head is going to hit a solid object. Our kids don't use one for wakeboarding, but we have protecs for skateboarding and snowboarding and bikeriding. They aren't hitting sliders yet, I hope I don't have a hard time getting them to wear a helmet if/when they do.
