Looking at a camera or a camcorde for Xmas. I only have a point and shoot. I like the idea that the ti1 can do both although I'm sure it's not ad good at either being a Dslr or video, but does it do a good job? Seems line having the video option on a dslr would be pretty convirnient

I just bought a T1i, and the video on it is really nice. it beats my old Sony Handycam by a LONG shot. plus, it gives me all the options like spot focusing, blurring out, all that stuff without needing to get a super expensive HVX or any camcorder like that, that are up in the $1,000+ range. I actually have a video I can post up on youtube so that you can see its quality if you want. Or else, just go to Youtube and search "T1i test video". there's one that I thought was really good, shows how versatile the camera is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GxUwQpjchI. The one negative i've noticed is the T1i's mic picks up the sound of the camera autofocusing. manual focus is better, but you can still hear it. Not a problem for me, as i usually have music over it.

Ya thnk I'm ging t get a ti. The video is pretty damn good especially with some good glass. Plus I think I would use the video more just because it's a setting away instead of another peice of gear

I'm not sure there's a reason to buy a small consumer cam anymore. They really don't handle any better then a DSLR and given the sensor size and quality of even std lenses on the Rebel the video is going to be much better.

oh and DJ what you'd said about "Not as good at either being a dslr or video", as in its not good as just a DSLR? i think is what you meant. completely the opposite. 15.1 megapixel and some good lens, (like rich said), and its a high quality photo-takin piece of equipment.

Ya, I figured that there are some features missing, but really, it seems like bells and whistles. no top lcd screen...etc. I was lookng at a 40d due to the 6fps, whereas the ti1 is only 3.4fps.

but really for my abilities, its totally overkill as a dslr. I just hope ill be able to take some good shots.
