Anyone ever cut the legs off a fullsuit to make a longarm/shorty. I'm gonna do it to an old one, and just wondering if there's anything I have to do to it to make it work, like stitch the bottoms or anything?

thanks

prolly should stich the bottoms. why do you want a long arm shorty?

you going to put leg cinches in? if not I think they have a rubberized leg grommet to help keep the legs down.... Might be better off e-baying the old suit & buying what you want.

Long arm shorties rock! My buddy has one and loves it. Id try to find a spot on your leg where its nice and snug and cut it there.

Andrea, my wife can't find a long arm shorty as well for womens. We only found them for mens. She looked everywhere this season. Let me know when you find one for womens. She checked all the brands.

I just did it last week. I have an old 3/2 O'neal that I use to take out docks. The bottom of one of the legs was totally tattered. I cut it off just below the knee to keep from tripping on it. I liked it so much, I cut the other one off too. It held up fine for the day, but I would probably put a hem on it.

Try the wet suit repair stuff. It is a black glue and works really well repairing tears. It should help prevent tears where you cut it.

Oneill makes a long sleeve shorty for men and women. We sell them both here in our shop. If you can't find them anywhere else I can ship one to ya. Just let me know, I may not have all the sizes but I do carry all the most popular sizes and can order any others.

A longarm shorty makes sense to me. My upperbody gets colder than my legs.

Stitching isnt necesarry- but definitely put glue on the stitching down the seam to seal it from unraveling

I would recommend hitting the ripcurl outlet shop in Trestles, but it doesn't sound like a lot of people live near that area . Lots of discounted wetsuits, trunks, tees, rash guards, boards...........

Not to my knowledge but will check on it right now. I will post up my findings.

Oneill makes some glue that you can use to repair wetsuits and torn seams. I can't find any here but I sure can order some. Holla at me if you would like me to do so as I can always ship it to ya. I would like to think that if you call Oneill yourself that they would send it right to your door aswell. Just tell them that you need to repair your wetsuit that you bought from them and your local dealer doesn't stock it, I'll bet they will send it free of charge.

I just got back from Chick's Sporting Goods, and picked up a RipCurl 2/1 long sleeve shirt for $60. Can't beat that deal! I was at the Trestles shop this weekend, and they were very limited in their shirts. FYI

All Oneill's stuff can be ordered with long sleeves. I personally think you should get this one. http://www.oneill.com/juniors-products.php?sport=surf&categoryID=1&typeID=12&ser iesID=4&id=273

i actually cut a few inches of the legs off one of my dad's old wetsuits that he didn't want anymore. the rest of the suit fit me fine but the legs were way too long. it worked great...no unraveling or anything! i used it for quite a while until i bought my own suit. i personally don't think you need to go out and buy a new one unless you just absolutely want to! :-)

Andrea,I cut my ripcurl 3/2 2 years ago when I got a 4/3. I didn't do anything to the bottom and havn't had a problem. I do wear shorts over it though bc it looks funky.
Old     (parkgirl)      Join Date: Nov 2001       10-24-2007, 6:14 PM Reply
Cabin- exactly what I wanted to hear! I ALWAYS wear shorts over any length suit, not even an arguement so nobody better start it!

Thanks everyone else for the tips and ideas.
I am not looking to buy or sell. I don't think anyone would want my peed in suit anyway, and I have a TON of neoprene tops, spring suits and a 4/3 fullsuit ,so trust me this one will get more use this way. In fact I already cut it and it has worked great the past two days.

I cut my full suit at the legs b/c I hate how if feels and my lower legs don't usually get too cold any how. I didn't do anything with the cut ends and it is still going strong at at least 20 times. The legs sometimes ride up a bit b/c there is no elastic anymore but it is not a big deal b/c I always where shorts over my suit.
