i know a bunch of people have been asking about the marius w/ smaller fins. here's the scoop.

i got some smaller fins for the marius (big thanks to hahn!) but haven't had the chance to check it out until this past saturday. talk about a different ride! it didn't seem as slow out in the flats. it still held its edge and tracked really well, but still had a loose feeling. the release off the wake is much, MUCH quicker! the pop was still big and the landings were still super soft.

for marius owners who ride w/ the bigger fins, i highly recommend riding it w/ the smaller fins. if you liked it w/ the bigger fins, you'll love it w/ the smaller fins!

disclaimer: this thread is by no means a promise that you will achieve the same results, nor is it a promise that you will have positive outcome like i did. the results were from MY style of riding. you may end up w/ different results.

Joe, have you ridin it finless? If so, what was your take on it?

no i haven't. i suck too much and rely a lot on the center fins.

Joe ~ What fins? The .75 absolute fins?
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       06-12-2006, 4:32 PM Reply
i'm guessin' that's what they are. they're long base but shorter height than the marius stock fins.

CIE. I rode it a few times finless and it edged well but the landings felt too loose. I put on the smaller fins, which are actually just the absolute fins, and now I love the way it feels.

It took you 6 months to put those fins on I sent you? You need to ride more.

The fins I sent him were out of my Absolute fin pack and they were the smaller ones.

you're right hahn. which is why i've ridden 2 weekends in a row, riding tomorrow, hopefully riding another day or two during the week this week, and riding this weekend.

Yeah the Marius fins are 1 inch and the absolute platty fins are .75. Travor rides with some .5's or something like that. I was trying to get Bates to get me some for you, but it looks like you are happy now.

yeah, but what if the .5's are better for me? i'll never know unless you send 'em to me.

Joe, what do ya need the extra room for? You celebrating fathers day this weekend?

Definitely riding that board with smaller fins or finless is a must. I loved the way it felt finless, but it definitely makes you focus on technique.

..which i'm totally lacking!

we wanted the extra room for when family comes in to town. also, bug's gonna need a room for when he interviews for a job and looks for a place up here!

are you guys riding this weekend? i may be in need of a pull (and some lessons from the cie crew) this weekend.

Yeah we'll be out, but we might head up north to the Nor Cal INT event going on this weekend. You're welcome to join us anytime we're local though.

Definitely need to get Bug up here one of these days. He's gotta find a way to stay with Red Bull though. He's our in for the go-juice. We'd be sunk without it.

The Absolute fins come with a .75 and a .50 I thought? I was under the impression I gave Joe the smaller ones? Maybe it was a .75 and a 1.0? Anyone know for sure? I can say that the napster trading card of Zane doing a batwing is my photo! That comes in all the fin packs don't they?
Old     (antbug)      Join Date: Jul 2004       06-12-2006, 7:19 PM Reply
Hahn ~ The Absolute platty comes with the normal 1.3's and the smaller one the .75's. The Marius stock fins are the 1.0's.

And yes that is the photo that comes with the fins. Sick pic.

I also rode the marius. Really liked it finless, but landing spins was a hassle without a centerfin. I always slid out.
I took the marius stock fins an grinded them down to about .5'. It was done pretty fast an easy and it worked.
