what are some good, affordable lakes to live on in the Orlando area? How expensive is the housing market compared to Atlanta?

There are no affordable lakes to live on in Orlando....I would say you would be lucky to get on one for 700K....don't know the market in Atlanta.

If you find an affordable house on the lake here, you might want to consider a high tech alarm system, bars on your windows and doors and a watch dog. Good luck, I'd stick with Atlanta.

Here is a link for a condo on a lake in Orlando. Mel is right, any home in orlando is going to be expensive. Here in Winter Haven, to live on a decent lake will cost you $500K. I'm in the real estate business and prices might come down over the next year, but for specialty properties like lakefront, you have to really luck out to find a deal. If you want more info, PM or email me and I'll help anyway I can...

i'd check out lake howell. not too sure about prices on homes out there, but apartment rentals are really cheap and there aren't too many riders on that lake.

I would stay away from Lake Howell. There are some really big gators that like to eat people.

Were in the Melbourne area on 2 private man-made lakes. Currently two lots are for sale by owner. These lots are 1.25 acres with underground utilities, city water/sewer. Email me if you interestedUpload
