I'm curious as to what's the average speed that people surf at. Please post your average surf speed.

Behind my 25LSV with 750lb PnP in the rear lockers.

10.5-11 mostly. I've had guys on super buoyant boards ride as fast 12+ and You can really boost at that speed, but to me a little slower feels more like the ocean.

11.0-12.0..... 2015 Axis T23 with fully loaded ballasts. 11.6 average speed. Slower = steeper wake, shorter pocket with tons of push. Faster = longer wake, longer pocket but harder to stay in.

I must be the weirdo then, because we surf at a mere 8.2 mph. No fighting to stay in the pocket because you gain 6"-12" of wake/wave height. Of course you lose a couple feet of length, but so what? The added height and push easily mitigates the loss of length IMO, but I've got a 230 so I've already got a long wake/wave to start with.

11mph on the OG 2001 X-Star with a NautiCurl Wake Shaper, 750 in each rear locker, Factory 1100lbs, 800lb on the floor in the middle and a 400lb sac on the back seat. Also have 155lbs Fat Brick that we shift around accordingly. Makes the wake long, tall and fast. Basically my wakeboard set-up less the 1000lb bow sac.

10.6-10.8 on my 15 T22 with factory ballast, 900's 75% filled in rear and 400lb bow bag under seats.

Just picked up a 17 Craz so I'm interested to see the differences.

I think the bottom line is, based on your choice of boat, amount of people/gas and ballast you have on board all speeds will be different but when you see the wave is just right you know it....then there is YOUR perfect speed

Summer Henke is totally right! It depends on your feeling you just have to try and judge what you prefer.
Personally I ride 11,1- 11,4 depend on people on the boat when I surfstyle with my soulcraft. Higher speed get more length on the wake, more length is better to gain speed and pop. I don't know how to say it but it's more "sport" feeling,
Length is important too when you want to do 360's .
The less speed the harder It gets to do tricks, more speed the easier it get to do tricks

When I use my skim board. I ride 10,4- 10,6 because I like to have big height. It's more smooth When you want to relax and enjoy. Or learn to somebody new

When I was riding pro, you have to ride 11.9 - 12,4

Tige Z1 2016, factory ballast 2400lbs. Front surf side full (300lbs), front other side half (150lbs) , both rear full 900lbs each. But it always depend on how many people on the boat

There is another variable, I don't know if 11mph with a GPS is equal to 11mph with a paddle wheel (like mine).

^^^^Only if it is calibrated. Mine is within .25 or so and honestly, that is more than good enough.

Also, When you are using decimals, no GPS is that accurate. Just for the sake of science. I compared my boat to my phone, to a cheap GPS and to an expensive GPS and there was about .2mph variation among all of them. I am sure it has to do with cycle rates or something.

12.7. My wave is too tall and short without.

That's exactly what I was thinking. because I ride mostly on the river and the speed is compensating for current (which is why I WANT paddlewheel) so GPS speed is not very relevant for me when the river averages 2 to 3mph or higher current.

That said, 9.7 to 10mph on my Moomba XLV with about 3k of ballast and a homemade suck gate.

11.8 on the port side 12.4 on the starboard side. This is listed at 7. With approx 2100 to 2200 lbs on a 22 foot Tige RZ2. Usually just a driver and surfer.

10.6 - 11.2 depending on rider preference and people in the boat. 14 Supreme V226. 1,500lbs surf side, 0- 25% rear non surf + factory bow

11.2 or 11.3 whatever it GPS is different than paddle wheel, on CO river near needles surf speed is 9.8 due to currents and depth of water. In deep water 11.2 is the sweet spot RI257
