Driving down a rutted backwoods lane (not towing at the time), I scraped the socket for my trailer plug. The bracket bent way up, and the (white) ground wire was pulled free from its mount to the uniframe. But after some checking, I seem to have other electrical issues than just that.
Down at the bottom is a picture of the tail-end of my in-vehicle trailer wiring. It comprises 7 wires, 3 of which extend between a 7-blade RV socket and a 4-way flat plug (normally, the trailer connector). This 4-way flat plug connects to a 4-way flat socket, which is also underneath the sill of the bac-end frame and very close to same connector shown above. I did a continuity check on all 7 wires, and all are fine.
Honda Pilot’s owner’s manual has a troubleshoot section for trailer wiring. It says check 2 underhood fuses (their fine), 2 passenger-compartment fuses (also fine), and then says the next thing.
The manual says that there are a pair of 7.5 A fuses in this general location that I have torn down into. There is no other wiring in this vicinity (that I found), and I am left staring at this thing. I don’t know what it is, and I don’t know how to disconnect it. Anybody?
Aside from that, what else can I do? Where is a good supply of things like that tail-end of my in-vehicle trailer wiring shown above?, and 4-way flat connectors? (U-haul, boat dealers, ??? sadly, it is the 4th today).
And here’s a really basic question (and it might give you an idea of my challenges here). My solder iron is 40 W. It can solder angel-hair thin wires together, but that’s about it. Any advise for size and sources of solder irons?
