Mercruiser 350MAG MPI?

Is this engine powerful enough to handle 1500lb ballast and 4-8 people while wakeboarding? 315hp seems not enough when all the dealers are equiping their boats with 330hp or more.

What boat?? 315hp pulls just finein my V210 with 1500lbs. Any narrow beam 21 footer it will be fine in. When you get to the wider, heavier, longer boats, 330hp+ is needed. The 350MAG is a good engine though.

315hp might struggle with 1500lbs and 8 people so you'd do well to get a decent cnc'd prop to help it out.

I run 315hp and with 9 adults the boat pops out fine. Not tried it with any further ballast as yet though.

I used it with 1,800 lbs ballast and a full crew for wakesurfing. A bit sluggish, but not bad.

My 2000 Centurion V-Drive has that engine. Have Karl verify your prop size. After speaking with him my hole shot is much better with very little loss of top end speed. We load up with 1600+ lbs of ballast, slightly sluggish all weighted up but what do you expect?

It's in a sanger v215. Do I need to go with a bigger prop?

That should do just fine. You don't need a bigger prop. You actually should drop down in pitch. I had that same motor in my DLX Sanger and we loaded it regularly with 2k plus 4-5 people and never had any trouble. I actually gained top end by going from a 13X13 prop to a 13X12 prop because it allowed more RPM's.

Anyway, with a relatively small boat like that you should do just fine.

2004 Sanger v230 with 315hp and a 13x12 acme, six adults and three kids + 1250lbs ballast. A bit sluggish out of the hole but gets up to 22mph quick enough. Definite reduction in performance, but still within acceptable limits. Drawback is at the top end, only gets to around 35mph @ 4300rpm verses 42mph @ 4800rpm normally. So who pulls at 35? An extra 15 ponies would be nice but its less than a 5% increase in hp.

We have a '04 Sanger V215. We run the stock triple ballast plus an additional 400lb in the nose. It has no problems. The cost of the 330hp was not worth it to me. WE regularly go otu with 6-8 people and have 200+ hrs on our boat. NO problems.

05 Sanger 215 had my prop pitched to 13 x 11.5, hole shot is amazing with triple ballast (1200lbs) 2 600lbs fat sacks (normally only one) and 7 people.

your prop will have alot to do with it!
