I have my original PROP i was keeping as a backup. (13 X 17.5) I have a 13x16 on my boat now. Can the 13 x 17.5 be worked down to say 13x14 or so? The 13 x 16 is way better than the 17.5 but i think a 14 would be even better. Where's a good place to send it if it can be reworked?

From my personal experience having a prop worked on, the pitch can be worked down a little to make it more aggressive but I don't think you can get that much out of it. Maybe you could get the 13x16 down to a 13x15. There is a local guy that does prop repair, that is who I went to. I am pretty sure he had heavy metal poisoning.

I guess i could get the 17.5 to the same 16 that i have now then get the 16 down to 14 or 15. Does your local guy take them shipped in and work them?

What kind of prop is it? ACME or OJ? I know OJ will rework your prop for you. You are looking at spending some coin on shipping and then to have it reworked. Is your 13x17.5 currently damaged?

Both are ACME. Neither is damaged. I have the ACME 497(13x17.5) as my spare. The ACME 516 (13x16) is on the boat currently. I'm about 100 miles south of Atlanta. Maybe someone knows of a place close by to get them reworked. I figured getting them reworked is cheaper than getting another new prop.????

If neither is damaged, I would just sell the 497, and buy the one you want. Use the 516 for your spare then. I can't imagine the cost difference would be much when compared to reworking two props, and running the risk that the rework is done poorly.

Anyone interested in an ACME 497 (13x17.5) then?

I agree with TomH, sell it and get a lower pitched prop. Also see if you can put a larger diameter prop on your boat too. I have a 15x12 on my A22.

I had read somewhere on these forums that a 13.5 was too large and would blister the gel but ill have to go under and look to see how much room i have. Is there a minimum clearence recomendation?

The minimum I have always heard has been .5" clearance to keep from cavitation and gel coat burn.
