I had a 20 dlx for years and I learned alot of tricks on her. I see your in Antioch. I have a fat seat ( 1200#) just collecting dust if you want it.

Also go to my profile and there is a picture of me doing a tantrum or something on the 20 dlx. Thats with a fatseat int the back (1200#) and a 500# back in the isle. I recommend a reprop because I didnt and finally destroyed the transmission running a ton of weight.

So took the sanger out on monday wake has decent pop, but the bad news the damn steering was stiff as hell come to find out Sangers are notorious for the steering cable issue also its discontinued on top of that any secrets or tricks to svoid changing whole helm, steering wheel, cable , etc?
Old     (saberworks)      Join Date: Sep 2010       05-29-2012, 3:52 PM Reply
Try lubing it?
Old     (chinexican)      Join Date: Jul 2011       05-29-2012, 9:38 PM Reply
The cable or rudder?
Old     (saberworks)      Join Date: Sep 2010       05-29-2012, 10:22 PM Reply
Everything. I have a V210 but haven't looked at it yet. My old MC prostar 190 had a grease fitting at the rudder (inside the boat) that helped a ton. We also lubed up the cable.
Old     (blastmaster)      Join Date: Aug 2001       06-01-2012, 4:13 PM Reply
It is likely the steering cable and they are a bitch to find. It takes a Mercruiser Ride Guide A111111-20 Steering Cable and they are obsolite. Everyone will try to sell you a helm system change over and newer cable. If you look around you can find the Mercruiser Ride Guide cable for around $150. Standard problem on an older boat. Greasing did nothing for mine. New cable is a dream and easy to install by the way...

Old     (Saintraj)      Join Date: Mar 2012       06-01-2012, 11:19 PM Reply
Could you let me know if that cable ends up working? If so, where did you find it?

I just picked up a 94 DLX for $7500; Steering's OK (not great), but if I can take care of it now and not have to search for the part in a couple years, I'd prefer that.

Thanks,

Raj
