Ok so I have pretty gone full nerd overboard on the new boat. I was thinking and talking to the guys at the stereo place that is doing my work about a device that could be mounted somehow to the riders handle that would allow them to control the stereo volume, select songs, and perform basically the same functions that a transome remote has except out at the end of the rope. Has anyone heard one of or does such a device not exist?

Doesn't exist yet, though I know of at least one person that is working on such a device. The closest thing that I know of (which is very close to hitting the market) is made by HSE. They are doing a volume control that is fed by the tach signal. When you slow down the volume drops, much like most newer car stereos work. As you speed up it goes back to the preset volume. Really cool device. Hopefully Jim will jump on here and give you more info.

Alpine makes a remote that is waterproof. I belive Grant posted some info on it a while back. You can attach the remote to your life jacket.

It say 100 feet. I would think an eye on the tower someplace or the transom would be ideal and work well. I am going to have my guys look into it.

The problem that I have had with remotes in the boat is that the sun tends to hinder the control and range for some reason. This was with a sony so other brands might be better.

This is not an IR remote, but rather an RF. You do not have to have a line of sight to control the radio.

It's not perfect pass, or a remote on the handle for the stereo, but I think it is pretty cool...

While feeding our new born the other morning, (early morning mind you) I dreamed up something related. Why hasn't someone mounted a set of tweeters in the handle? As light as dome tweeters are and then glass or fab them in to a carbon handle, run the wires with the rope back to the tower. Tweeter would have to be somewhat water proof, also have to have 70+ feet of speaker wire, but looks like as a package deal you could sell the handle, rope, wire and speakers as one. Oh yea, I want royalties!!

I have the Alpine RF, they are quick detach and can be carried by lanyard or rope for riders.
