This is my 12 month old lab Rex! I think he would swim all day long if I lived on a lake. He hasn't made it out on the boat yet, but I will let you guys know how it goes. I'm a little bit worried he will jump in the water and I won't be able to get him back in the boat!

Micheal, so how much fighting does it take to get you RR on the boat? I've had three over the years and not of them liked water in the least bit. Not to mention they're couch, bed, chair, space hogs!

Rick,
She does not like going in the water over her chest. But when i got the boat I put her in it at the house to get her use to it. It took some effort to get her on the dock at first but now she almost drags me to the boat.

Space Hogs is right. She has now decided that she gets to sit in the passenger seat on the boat and pushes my wife off. Or when its cold and the heater is on she will get under my feet and block 2 of the heater vents.

Its funny because now when i go in the water she will go to the very edge of the back pad and will whine at me. She has almost slipped in a few times. She trys even when I am up surfing. I am waiting for her to fall in and see how much she freaks out.

I have a Basset hound (not exactly bred for swimming) and she is all of the sudden in love with the water. When she was a puppy she was in the boat and fell out because she was watching me wakeboard. She was pretty apprehensive about getting in water untill the camping trip this weedend where I could not keep her out of the water. She was swimming with the kids out 20 ft from the shore.

Dogs are like having more kids on the boat!

Jack is mine. He'd chase his ball across the lake if I could throw it that far.

How do dogs do on the seats? My girlfriend wants to get a dog, but I'm a little reluctant to put it in my boat.

Michael, all of mine were exactly the same way it's their nature. Just pick him up and put 'em in the water, you'll be amazed just how good of swimmers they are. My last one would get on the pool steps but that was it, so i'd carry him out in the middle and let him go and he eventually got used to it, especially on those 100+ days.

as for vinyl, people have answered in other threads that you just keep the nails trimed and its not a problem. Some have booties to protect the vinyl.

I just got my boat and still havn't taken the mutt out, but I did get the booties for him because I am nervous about the vinyl also

For those with bigger dogs, at what point do you leave your dogs home when you have people riding with you? 4-5+ people? If you don't, where is your dog's "spot" so they aren't in the way?

I think for me when my dog gets older he will always come him and 6 people tops would be a crowded but ok for a short day on the river...and his "spot" is in the bow.haha

Both my dogs are big dogs, one is 95# & the other is around 80#. We walk them prity often on so there nails stay short & dull. As far as the interior no problems. After all that’s what upholstery shops are for. Our time with our dogs is short, take them with you and enjoy it. They are a lot of fun in and around the boat. You let them in your house? Why not your boat?

Great thread--love the pictures! Does anyone have any problems with dog nails puncturing the seats or dogs jumping out of the boat unexpectedly?

Stanfield.....Yes, you got me..... I had no say in the naming of our pooch.... That was all my wife's doing..... It was a bit odd when we named her, but over the years it's kinda grown on me..... I knew I was going to get grilled for my post but.... Regardless of the name, I don't know what I would do without her.... Gotta love the animals!
