Actually, we're still waiting to see a slammed X2 wake. As far as I know, no pics have been posted on this site. Only stock ballast pics.

AS I recall, that boat was not slammed either. Everyone said it needed more weight

I rode one at USC's tournament a month ago. They said it was stock ballast + 1,000 pounds. It certainly wasn't slammed. My opinion, wake sucked. Granted it was my second heat & in the first round I rode an X-Star with 2,000 pounds of water in it. There are some pics in the "Sick event at Elsinore" page.

I thought they had closer to 1,500lbs over stock....that is pretty slammed to me!

They might have said it needed more weight but how much more do you wanna put?

My opinion is the new X2 wake is smaller than the old X2 but it is lipier at some points almost verticle at some others . I know for a fact its smaller than our old X9 but it has better shape , The 06 X2 the wake itself is narrow at the base and shoots up fairly quick it not real rampy . Ed any time you want to go out and slam the 06 let me know im up for some fun .Pound for pound I think the 06 X2 wake will be smaller than the 05 X2 just my observation in 7 hours time .
Old     (antbug)      Join Date: Jul 2004       12-09-2005, 3:19 PM Reply
The X2 in question had stock ballast (still don't know what that is on this boat) plus a 300lbs sac in each locker. 5 pop bags under each rear seat and 8 in the nose.

300 + 300 + 200 + 200 + 360 = 1360 over stock ballast.

All the riders said it needed at least another 500lbs.

The wake looked very good, but as Big Heavy said Jesson's X-star was there and I know that boat has a HUGE, sick wake.

A new generation X star has 900 lbs weight on a 06 X2 dry .
Old     (airrantz)      Join Date: Jun 2004       12-09-2005, 3:37 PM Reply
And a lot more surface area to sink. Dry weight is relative. If the X-star has the same surface area as your X2 it would mean something.

While you are running you calcs dont forget to factor in deadrise and length an width of strakes , Ill take 2 foot of nose and 4 inches of width and 900 lbs anyday.

Does anyone know what STOCK BALLAST the 06 X2 has?
I cant find anything on the MC website..

And another question: Where is the rear ballast located? At the same place as in the 05 X2 or under floor? Is there enough place for additional ballast without loosing all storage room in the rear?

Greeting from cold germany

I think stock ballast is the same as previous models. 900 pounds.

The rear ballast is under the floor which really opens up the rear storage.

Joe, If you're going to let Ed slam you boat, can I come?

i wouldnt compare the wake of an 05 x2 and an 06 x2, from the little bit I have seen it seems like it is marketed as more of a "baby xstar" and I think from the few pics I have seen of the wake it is a better comparison in xstar to 06 x2.

Had the opertunity to ride the 06 x2 friday and an 02 xstar (05 x2) on saturday. I don't want write off the 06 just yet as we only had stok ballast, but the wake was really small and didn't seem very solid. I hope with more weight it will get better but for 63,000 I was not impressed

94 or 96 ?

In the MC print brochure it is 94, on the MC website 96...i´m confused

I really like the looks and size of the new x-2 and was considering getting one, but, 650lbs stock ballast??? WTF? I'm sick of filling fat sacks.
Does anyone really ride with less than 1500lbs these days?
Why don't MC CC and others offer more stock ballast?
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       12-26-2005, 9:21 AM Reply
That's my big question. I wish these boat companies would step up with some solid ballast. They don't have to go crazy, as the average buyer probably still doesn't know what to do with a ton of ballast, but give it enough ballast that is is rideable stock. 650lbs is almost a joke, but it's a great looking boat, so I'll give it a chance.

Do the boats not meet a special regulation if they are loaded with too much ballast? (Can't remember what that reg is called) Help on that one someone!

What are people paying for their 2006 X2s? I thought a month or so ago I had heard people were getting out the door for between 55 and 58. My local dealer is offering one to me for 58,500 + 1000 delivery charge. Initial "great deal" offer, so I imagine he has room, but I am curious what real fair market value is.

Gents,

I just ordered my 2006 Supra 21V with 2200lbs of factory ballast. So there is at leat one manufacturer who is listening to their customers.

Where I come from... our MC dealer is not only 3 hours away, but are also a bunch of ass clowns and the Supra dealer is great; however, if the reverse were true... I would be more than happy to buy MC.

One last thing... the X-2 is a great looking boat... but are we wakeboarding or trying to impress the neighbours?

for $50k+ you would hope to be able to get a boat that does both. not that i'm trying to impress anyone or anything, but i wouldn't spend that much money on a boat i didn't like the looks of, regardless of the wake

kevin, 2200 lbs. factory ballast is awesome. where do they put all of the sacs/tanks? i'm not all that familiar with supra boats, but i'm amazed you can get that much ballast in without having some on the floor or cushions. is a lot of the weight beneath the floor, or does it take away a lot of the storage space? congrats on a great boat...i'm sure you're stoked
Old    kvanderg            12-27-2005, 10:52 AM Reply
The 2200lbs is all stowed away... no sacks showing anywhere and its all flip of a switch.

There is all the normal storage areas as well as about 1/2 of the bow and 1/2 on either side of the engine is still open as well. The 21V is a deep boat with lots of freeboard.

By comparison the Malibu VLX comes with a 4 tank 1250# system that eliminates storage in the bow, but leaves either side of the engine open. Now, add sacks to bring up to the same weight, which most guys are doing, and you have less storage than the 21V and you are dealing with fat sacks and extra pumps and puss like that.

Not trying to convert anyone to Supra... I'm not a dealer and do not own any stock in the company... but after looking at all boats in this size range and factoring in the dealer thing... the 21V was the way to go for me.

As far as looks go... the X-2 looks nicer for sure... but the 21V is pretty enough for me.

The way I look at the ballast situation is that 90% of people out there add extra, and by doing this, you are catering the wake to fit your needs and riding style. In my last boat, I could put a 500# sac in the bow and get a big rampy wake, or put that same sac in the back and have a more lippy wake.
I would personally rather be able to customize my ballast to meet my needs as a rider, rather than have the manufacturer tell me how the wake will be shaped. It's not that much of a pain.

With that said, I am planning on putting 2-4 80# bags of concrete in the bow and tie in two 500# sacs to the rear ballast tanks. this should get me started, but I want to see how the boat reacts to weighting in different areas.

Boat is an 06 X2, i'll post pics as soon as I get her (late feb, early mar.)

More ballast usually equals less storage. I have a 2004 Supreme with 2800lbs plumbed in. But the sacks take up both rear storage lockers and the bow storage. I have managed to keep all sacks out of any of the walking area.

This is why I have great interest in the new Epic. 3200lbs+ ballast all beneath the floor. So no storage space is taken up. Also... they use pirahna pumps... they are fast, quiet, draw low current, and best of all... no rubber impellers to replace.

I know with Supra you can always up grade to Gravity Games Sacks... but they are exposed sacks in key storage areas. You have to be careful that you dont have zippers or buckles etc against the sack incase you fill and pinch it... etc...

If boat manufacturers are infact listening... they will add ballast that is simple and problem free. Below the floor so you dont have to sacrifice storage!

For someone who wants to be totally crazy... add fat sacks to the Epic... yikes.... you could have 5000lbs+ in there.... hahhaha... Dont know who would ever add that much weight...

Matt, I hear what you're saying. Congrads on the new boat.
With that said 650lbs ballast is a joke on a wakeboard specific boat. Why even bother with any?

Does MC still offer their pro-ballast upgrade? When we purchased our boat back in 02' they had a 5 bag system as an upgrade, to bad we didnt know about this until after taking delivery! I believe it was in the nieghborhood of 2000lbs.

Tom, I know, the small amount is kind of sad, but I'm getting a smokin deal so I'll deal with it. The good news is that it is all below the floor so you still have plenty of storage space to put the lead.
Old     (hamkj)      Join Date: Apr 2002       12-27-2005, 10:43 PM Reply
Kevin... When you say no sacks showing... Supra uses sacks in the rear storage lockers... The same type of set up that I have.. the only problem... is it takes up the storage space... and you also have to watch out what gets put back there... and remember to get things out of the back before filling the sacks...

I like what Calabria, MB, X-Star and EPIC have done... use tanks in the stringer system below the floor....

I hate sacks!

AndrewD, my dealer said around mid $50's for an 06 X-2 well equipped.
Old    kvanderg            12-28-2005, 1:04 AM Reply
Kyle,

I personally would not base my purchase criteria on "more than 2000# of ballast, all beneath the floor in hard tanks".

I think you would end up overlooking some really good/proven boats and end up considering some mediocre/unproven boats in order to get that. May be different a few years from now... lets see what the big boys end up doing.

Wouldn't be so bad if a guy could exchange some ownership risk for some substantial savings... but all these up start boat companies (Svfara, Liquid Ride, Epic, etc.) seem to think they have the golden goose and can go straight to the front of the pack with their pricing. Here is a thought... why wouldn't these NEW manufacturers lease their boats? That way... if the boat sucked or the company went breasts up... it wouldn't be your problem... it would be their problem. You know... meet a guy 1/2 way and give him a reason to switch

Sacks, that are out of the way and dont require separate pumps, are the lesser of the two evils right now. Having said that... you have to be careful so... leave the steak knives, cork screws, knitting needles, bow & arrow and spike belts at home where they belong

Brian - thanks. That is kinda of what I was thinking was mid 50s. That means you probably lose 10k in value in the first year. Steep, but that 05 X2 is really small inside and I like the looks of the 06 much better. With the discussion about extra ballast, I think the 06 X2 has the beneath the floor tanks so it is easy to add more ballast and still have rear storage room. But yes I agree, why haven't some of the major manufacturers listened and put in more stock ballast or at least offered it as an upgrade like Supra does?
Old    kvanderg            12-28-2005, 9:11 AM Reply
Talking about losing $10K in the first year...

I think one of the big reasons you can't lease a boat is it would force the Manufacturer/Dealer to put their balls on the line and put, in black and white, what the real value of that boat will be in 1, 2 or 3 years.

I love it when someone says that CC retains 96%, Malibu retains 93%, Master Craft retains 92% of its new value in the first year (approximate figures... but I'm sure we have all heard that line before from someone).

Lets do it then... let me lease a CC and only lose 4% and get a new boat every year... where do I sign up?

Sorry... got a little off topic... you can have your thread back now

Well what were 05 X2s going for last year? Fair value low to mid 50s, or am I a bit low? My dealer has a new one, smaller engine he will sell me for 42. I have seen two on the internet for mid low 40s as well, low hours. So that's easily 10k. I think its like a car that the first year the value really tanks and it starts to level off after that. Or else the dealers are charging way too much......

Kevin... I hear ya with the new start ups... I have tried working with all of the ones you mentioned... I would pay them the exact cost of the manufacturing cost... then they would pay me back a monthly interest only payment... for the first year and then Principal and Interest after year 1. Or they can sell my boat and replace it with a new model and continue interest only... This way... I always have a new boat... and they have working capital and someone advertising their newest and latest and greatest... We have come very close to an agreement... but we are a couple of thousand out... so we will see what happens... who knows... but this way.. we have shared the risk...

Bottom line is... no one has good value in their boats right now... they are all over priced... hahaha... but we still buy them... What did you do with your old SSV? How much $ ?
Old    kvanderg            12-28-2005, 12:56 PM Reply
Kyle,

Interesting approach to buying a boat... I would love to get down to a small, fixed, yearly loss on a boat and get a new boat every year.

I have to be married to the same woman... so I would like to offset that with a new boat every year

The SSV got traded in on the new 21V. I was asked by the dealer not to disclose any pricing so that means:

1) I got a great deal

or

2) I got the shaft

I think I got an OK deal. I'm pretty easy to please though.

I was at my local dealer in Muskoka, now I got quoted in cnd funds, but when I convert to usd I get a really nice number.

Now this included a fall ordering credit, so it be more expensive now for sping delivery.

2006 X2
MCX engine upgrade
mooring cover
fiberglass platform
frieght $1000
PDI $650

The price OTR without taxes in USD would be approximately $53,500 using the current exchange rate.

Kevin... if you get a chance... come to the Okanagan for a ride behind the Epic.... I can tell you... an Epic purchase would not be based just on the amount of ballast alone... The handling is great... the vector steering is nifty.... and i think the main reason for buying a boat is how the wake is.... if it had nothing to do with cost... resale... etc.... I think you would find this is the biggest and one of the nicest shaped stock wakes out there... and would be comparable to others who have sacks laying all over their boat....

But again.... I dont have money lying around and cant afford to throw money away... so I just keep riding behind the prototype or one of the boats they are water testing.... or just use my own boat...

As they become more well known and the company is in fact a solid company... it will make the boat a viable choice to those looking for a true hardcore wakeboard boat.

Jed - MB - I love the ballast system, but there is no local dealer and resale would be tough in this part of the country.

Kyle - same thing with the Epic. No local support. Looks like a cool boat though.

Plus I have been a Mastercraft owner for 11 years and it has never treated me wrong.

Greg - wow that is a great price. If my dealer said I could get one all in for 53500 I would head up there right now. Of course then there's taxes....

Andrew,I think you are talking about a 05 x2 that is not loaded, after tax and lic.add 4k to 5k for that.

My x2 completely loaded and I mean up the ying yang for 46k+ tax and lic. "

I am sort of confused. I was assuming an 05 X2 new last year was low 50s. Are you saying you got an 05 X2 for mid 40s fully loaded last year? So the X2 has gone up 10k in price with this new hull? I am not sure what you were saying by the "add 4-5k".

So I guess that is another question - what did people pay for an 05 X2 who bought them new last year?

Thanks a lot for everyone's input. I am really interested in an 06 X2 but the prices quoted just seem too high.

Andrew ~ Sorry I forgot to mention it was an '04 that I bought the year before(brand new)
$4k-$5k for tax and lic.

My point was an '05 X2 or '06 X1 will cost you 50k nicely loaded otd.

From what I heard '06 X2 will be high 50k maybe low 60 if equiped nicely.

Big Ed- Equipped nicey an X-2 won't be too much more than what I posted, mind you if you start adding the assessories including racks, mastercraft by design stuff the price can get up there in a hurry!

Greg ~ When I say loaded I mean loaded.

From pull-out cleats to a boat cover and everything else you can think of.Shower excluded,I got that added later.I didn't think I was gonna be riding in the winter but changed my mind.

Went to the boat show yesterday and finally saw an X2 in person. I was amazed at the room it has inside. Roomier than some other company's 22 footers. The toogle switches were awesome. Honestly I think its a perfect boat (I love the graphics) except for that clamshell seat. I don't think I like that all that much. Does anyone know if the stock clarion stereo in the 2006 mastercrafts play mp3 cds? The dealer wasn't sure.

Just out of curiosity, what were they listing as the boat show price for the X-2?

The sticker was a bit higher on the boat, but I was told 59k for the one on the floor. I am going back tonight with my list of options and see what they'll do. I would imagine 55-57 for the standard setup, depending on the exact options. I'll let you all know what I find out tonight.

Ok I was quoted about $61,900 (xcld tax) for this:

MCX
cover
bimini
racks
extreme mirror
2 tower speakers ($1200 option)
2 tower speakers with lights ($1400 option)
wakeboard speed control
stereo amp sub
transom remote
heater ($800 option)
depth finder
navy fiberglass platform ($250 option over teak)
walkthrough curtain
cooler
fire extinguisher
tandem navy trailer

2006 X2

What do you all think? Sounds a bit high, even with the extra tower speakers. What do you think fair value is?
