I have a 2004 SSV that has been sent back to the supra factory to get fixed for multiple stress cracks in the gel coat.
When I picked the boat up from the dealer they pointed out one small crack in the bow. They said that when we brought it back to get winterized they would take care of it. At the end of the season when we took it back to get winterized there was about 6 or 7 more cracks with one in the hull that was about a foot long. The boat has about 35 hours on it and was in a smaller inland lake the whole season.
I love this boat and am not saying that there is anything wrong with supra I just want to know if any other people with 04 supra's have had a problem with stress cracks. Thanks.

Dale...

I have an 03 SSV and dont have a single gel coat crack after 120 hours. I have had several other boats that got a few small cracks during the 1st 50 hours or so, and nothing after that. I would assume since Supra is fixing the cracks, the customer service aspect is good, and I would assume after this you wont get any more. They usually appear during the 1st 50 hours or so. I have seen stress cracks in all brands, CC, Malibu, Supra, Moomba, Centurion, MB, and MC. I am not saying its ok, I am saying go with it, let the factory fix it, and if its re-occuring, then make them do something about it.

Agree with Sean, it does happen on all boats from time to time. Gel coat is an odd bear. Spray too thin and it's easy to damage. Spray too thick and it cracks easier (brittle.)

My '04 SSV had some tiny gel cracks at some non-obvious locations (corners of the gel under the rear sun deck, etc.) but none grew big enough to bother me. A foot-long gel-coat crack definitely is unusual and needs to be fixed.

Dale,
From the information I've received, there was a small number of boats ('03 or '04) which received application of an inferior batch of gel, which is provided to Skier's Choice by a supplier. I'm sure they will be doing everything to rectify the situation.

I have a couple of very small ones on our 04 ssv at one of the tower feet. Nothing big enough to worry me and like said previously, it happens on pretty much all boats. I've made my dealer aware, it's been documented, and will be taken care of when it's that time.
