I have an '08 MC x2 I plan on putting these two subs in. I have a Soundqubed Q1-2200D. It is rated at 2200 x1 at one ohm so I think it will power two Wetsounds XXX subs nicely paralleled into a one ohm load.

I plan on using the dual vented enclosure from Wetsounds website which are 20x20x15.25. I would like to make two of these boxes butted up together in the passenger side compartment under the seat. Both boxes facing the hull?? sitting on their shortest side so that it will be a total of 30.5 inches in depth and 20 inches tall. These will barely fit but they will fit. Anyone see any issues with this design? I don't think there will be any noise canceling have the two subs next to each other will there? As long as they are both phased correctly.

I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this plan as construction of the boxes will begin really soon hopefully to complete the project by Memorial Day!

Well I just realized the XXX only comes in dual 2 ohm making a 1 ohm final load with two woofers impossible. That puts a damper on using the single current amp I have unless I want to try running it at 0.5 ohm. That could be trouble. Still like to hear opinions on the woofer location and orientation in case I get a different amp setup and still run this plan.

Make sure the front of the OB compartment is closed off from any other cabinets, and I think David recommends at least half the subs diameter away from the wall, or in this case the hull. I would think you could make a dual enclosure a lot smaller using a single port tube kit. It will sound muddy if you don't get it far enough away from the hull. Should rumble the boat, and them sound good with the hatch open.

I probably could use a smaller enclosure but I really want to use the reccomended enclosure plans from Wetsounds as many have had good results with it. and two could only go louder as long as they don't work against each other and being side by side I don't think they will. Just gotta figure out how to power now

Kicker zx2500.1 is 2500watts @ 2 ohm.

That would be perfect. Hmmmm this could turn expensive fast

Remember, there's is a ton of port displacement in the dual slotted boxes. You can tune it the same hz using a precision port kit, and you should definitely not have any port noise. My box I built, although tuned to 41hz, has more audible output than the dual slotted box with no port noise. I'll probably never build another slot ported box after using a precision port kit.

We mainly listen to country which is why I tuned so high, and it blew me away. 1 XXXv2 on an SD2 blew me away and absolutely will wear you out sitting in the drivers seat. Either way you go I'm sure it'll jam. Call simon at wetsounds and I'm sure he will help a bunch. He convinced me into using a tube port kit and I'm glad I did.

You have the plans for the box you built? I want to tune 40 or above as well.

If you have sub sonic filter on amp, you'll be set. The SD2 doesn't so in careful on what I listen to , like crazy low rap songs that try to over excursion the sub. Port displacement doesn't count as the total net volume of box, so that's why I'd advise a precision port since the slot ported box has so dang much port area. Smaller box with same volume.

My current amp does have subsonic. It will be getting 2000 watts almost. I'll just have to be careful and keep the gains conservative. I do a 4 inch aero port at the house already. Any specifics on where to put the port. I mean I see where u have it but was that just placed there arbitrarily?

Supposed to be a diameter length away from any of the walls when possible. I just put it there for looks and was closest I could get it out away from the walls. No port noise at all even there though.

So have you used the dual slotted Wetsounds design as well?

+ one on the aero ports my box has dual 6" aero ports and last year I had slot ported box. The aero port box sounds better and has little more output., So much easier to work with. Mine is tuned a 37hz.

So neither of you guys had any port noise issue? I had a bad time with port noise on my last box and have heard others having the issue with a box similar to bryces box. I'm inclined to do this tho because I have the port in hand and it would make building the box very simple. Did you put the flare on the inside and outside of the tube? Also for port length did you you measure with he flares on or just the size of the tube?

port caluclator for flared or staright. My ports are flared on both ends.

Anyone who actually has the dual slotted port box with a XXX sub in it? Im leaning towards aero ported box just because I don't have any direct feedback on the loudness of the dual slot from someone actually using it.
Old     (bryce2320)      Join Date: May 2012       05-12-2014, 1:14 PM Reply
Yes I have the dual box in my garage and demod it in the boat firing at hull and direct radiating. I didn't have enough distance from hull so side firing it sounded muddy. Direct radiating was very disappointing and I 2nd guessed going with the XXXv2. Port noise and just didn't have much output IMO. My final box that I posted specs of absolutely blew me away and still does! Not bashing the xxxv2 box though, this is just my opinion of it and may have been my craftsman flaw, although I've built a ton of boxes. Using the precision port is the best sound I've ever had out of a sub box IMO. Once again, call simon. He actually designed the dual slot box after building numerous other versions and that's what worked best for the average listener. He encouraged me to tune higher for country music, and I'm really glad I went with the aero port.

Oooooo I see. I didn't know you had actually used the dual slot box I thought u just meant a slotted box in general. What amp were you using?

Bryce - how is the 8.75 inches from your plans measured on your port. Is that including internal and external flare or is that just the cut length of the tube without flares?
Old     (bryce2320)      Join Date: May 2012       05-12-2014, 3:37 PM Reply
The precision port tube tells you to take off 3"s and cut the actual tube to that measuremt. Than glue the flares on. Look up precision port kit, and if you have flares the instructions will tell you what to take off.
Old     (cal2vin)      Join Date: Jun 2010       05-12-2014, 3:59 PM Reply
Was there any specific measurement on where to place the sub cutout?

Bryce is that a program you used? I built a 1.8 with 4" aero port and it huffed a lot..... Maybe it was me, I could use more experience on enclosure design.
Old     (cal2vin)      Join Date: Jun 2010       05-12-2014, 7:41 PM Reply
Well I followed Bryce's design. Pretty much tried to mimic it. Hopefully I don't have too much port noise. Bryce did say he listened to mostly country which I wouldn't think would make as bad of port noise. I listen to mostly rap and hip hop so that could make it worse. I used a four inch aero cut to 9.25 inches. We will see.
It was a damn squeeze fitting the port and the sub opening on the front face. Think its going to work though. jonyb has my sub on the way. I'll report back when I get it hooked up.

That looks identical to the one I built last week, but the port is shorter.

Calvin the sub will be there around 1130 Wednesday......

Awesome. Well I figured I could build that one the quickest then if it doesn't work I'll move to the Hydrotunes one. And if I just get really bored I may try tackle the dual slot ported one from Wetsounds. For a beginner box builder like me that box would take forever and probably a couple redo's haha.

Im really starting to think the lack of port noise with bryces box might be the str8 country music. Nervous

You will not have port noise, what you might be hearing is the subs playing lower feq then you could actually hear. I would set my subsonic filter to just a hair under what you tuned the box. Your not going to get those low freq in a boat like you would in a car.

Box looks good! My buddy listened to some rap song, can't remember the name, but the bass absolutely wore me out after half the song. Remember I had 2 w7s in my old boat in slot ported boxes, and I never was blown away like I was with the XXXv2 in that box. Hopefully you feel the same! Can't wait to hear your feedback.

Here's a ****ty iPhone video, that will sound like **** unless you play it on a system I'm sure, but you can tell how hard it's hitting towards the end, when the bass pauses in and out.

haha.. your right, that is a ****ty video that sounds like ****.
but I don't think I have ever seen or heard a good video of a sub playing.. they just never sound right.
That sub looks like it is hitting HARD!! I am upgrading this year to a XXXv2 as well. I was going to build the slotted box but
after seeing this post, I am going to follow suit.. ordered up the precision port kit yesterday.. Thanks for the info and experience guys!

+ 1 for precision port. If you need to elbow it, there's a 90* elbow at lowes that fits great and represents 5.5" of length.

Bryce did you use any poly fill in your box? Wonder how that would affect if. If I get any port noise I might have to try it
Old     (bryce2320)      Join Date: May 2012       05-13-2014, 1:15 PM Reply
You won't have any port noise. And don't poly fill it. That box is at the max of the internal volume to run that sub.

Only time you will get a little port noise if you play stuff below tuning also.

Well many rap songs will drop below 41 hz even if just briefly.

My box is tuned to 37hz and I start to here more air than subs around 30hz. Just playing with test tones but my ports side fire so it might be the reason it will still play pretty low

I just noticed you said you cut your port to 9.25" instead of 9.75" like Bryce had in the enclosure specs he provided. If so, that means the tuning frequency will be a little over 42hz.

So I loaded the sub and have been listening to it for about an hour. Bottom line with hip hop rap music there WILL be port noise. I turned my subsonic to almost 40hz to get most of the huffing port noise out. Output of this sub in this box is awesome. Very loud. Louder than my old kicker l7 12 in a similar box by a little. I have been listening to song after song and some sound amazing and not a single bit of port noise but then other songs that go lower port noise is definitely there. Sub sonic helps and it didnt degrade the amount of music I hear even being at 40 hz but when its cranked u can still hear a small amount of port noise. That is all testing without the mids and highs hardly on. When I turn all the speakers and tower and sub up together it'd be really hard to notice any port noise. I'll probably keep this set up but I do have half a sheet of birch left so I may build a similar box except using dual 3 inch ports just to mess around. Will have to make that box slightly larger to keep the correct displacement after dual ports. I'll put up a video trying to showcase the port noise but as we all know its really hard to judge anything by a cell phone video
Old     (cal2vin)      Join Date: Jun 2010       05-16-2014, 7:03 PM Reply
Would it be crazy to try use the same box and put a 3 inch port just below the 4. Make them both as small as they can go so basically no tube length just the flares. I'd have to buy another 4 inch kit as well. Well then the displacement of the box would be decreased too much for the sub possibly. I'll probably build a separate one so I dont ruin a good one.
Old     (cal2vin)      Join Date: Jun 2010       05-16-2014, 7:30 PM Reply
Both videos are at the same volume with the mids and highs turned down using the 420sq. Amp is audioque a2200d at 1 ohm. Song is booty me down. Not a great song but the beginning is low and I don't have any test tones at the moment. First one has the subsonic at 40hz second one is at 10hz.

I'm unfamiliar with that sub... is it not possible to tune it a little lower?
Old     (cal2vin)      Join Date: Jun 2010       05-16-2014, 8:30 PM Reply
Wetsounds website says optimal tuning is 41. In a marine environment I feel like much lower just starts shaking everything and doesn't contribute to volume. I wanted volume.

Sorry to hear Calvin. I was worried about distorting or driving the sub to over excursion. Must have just been port noise from the extreme lows. Like I said, I mainly listen to country, so I love the box. Hopefully you come up with something that works for what you listen to. No doubt that box has extreme output though!
Old     (cal2vin)      Join Date: Jun 2010       05-16-2014, 8:37 PM Reply
I think it is from the lows that really aren't even that common in rap songs. Maybe dubstep but I don't listen to that too much. These kind of lows are non existent in country music. Like you said definitely very loud!

I the same amp aq2200 the settings were never right. If I put on 35hz subsonic it would still play a 30 Hz test time no problem. I would raise the subsonic a little more.
