Those of you that use bumpers(fenders) do you have any problem with it chafing the side of your boat. I docked mine the first time yesterday and I could see a little rub where the bumpers where hanging. I think a good waxing will take care of it, if you use bumpers and don't have a problem what size are you using.

anchor out and swim in -- or eitehr put it on a lift... bumpers ruin a boat!

I thought about maybe looking into getting some mooring whips. Or doing something like you said. Anchor the front of the boat in the water and tie the back of the boat to the dock.

I bought a set of mooring whips last year and they worked great. Highly recommend them. Real easy to install and the boat never came close to the dock even in really heavy chop.

texag, all the pictures I saw of the mooring whips the base that mounts to the dock looked small to me. Do they come with a wide mounting base?

I rigged me up an anchor bouy. I got 1/4 galvanized chain and a bucket of concrete. I took some water hose and put the chain through it and stuck it in one side of my useless fender(dock bumper) and on the other end bought a 4' bungee dock line and a stainless hook to hook to the front bow eye and I plan on tying the back of the boat to the dock. I hope the bungee will allow to pull the back of the boat close to the dock so we can board. I'll take a pic when it's done.
