XLR to RCA media Box

Im throwing the boat show www.boatbeats.com
what Im looking for is a way of taking a signal from a DJ booth (XLR cable) and sending it like 100 yards away and splitting it up so that the boats at the boat show can all use the signal.

I was told there was a Item called a Media Box that will do just this, Any one know about this or a better way to do it??

You could use a BeachTek adapter, like those sold for video cameras. Basically, they let you use XLR mics with video cameras that only have a 1/8" inputs.

What about doing it with a small FM transmitter, so you don't have to hardwire it all? Obviously not iTrip small, but maybe 1 watt...

Yes that thing looks cool Im wondering why there is a Left and right XLR imput and not just one. Do you have to give it a Left and right XLR signal imput to get a Left and Right RCA output?

How many lines out are you looking for? All you need is a basic Audio Distribution Amplifier. A cheapie from Radio Shack (cringe) would do the job:

The XLR out of the DJ mixer and the RCA inputs are the same line signal, so you do not need any signal conversion, just an adapter to go from XLR to RCA, which is also available at Radio Shack (cringe) or a Guitar Center.

The mixer should have no problem driving a signal 100' down a mic cable then adapt it at the DA to RCA. If you want a stereo signal, you would need two XLR's from the mixer to the DA, then two RCA's (L&R) to the boats. To keep it simple, you could also shoot a mono signal to all so there is just one wire to deal with.

BTW: avoid the FM transmitter or other wireless devise is the object is to showcase the boat' sound systems. There is a noticeable quality drop in signal when you go wireless since most signals are compressed to transmit and drop the frequencies at either end of the spectrum.
