here is some info on a new driver that looks promising and should be better than any traditional horn driver (they copied a ribbon array)- there are commerical ribbons avialable that should work just as well too...horns are great for in certain applications(professional audio ie loud) and are easy to driver but come with certain problems -

- very high distortion (as high as 25% !!!!!)
- beaming (very narrow pattern)
- bright sounding (ragged in high frequency)
- easily overpowers the mid and bass drivers..

here is the link to new driver that looks very promising and should theoretically work very well..

here is the link....

dont know if it is available yet, but i do see this or a variation of it on the next couple generations of tower speakers.

i have been getting a lot of email regarding tower speaker design and drivers asking for advice and component selection..

i have designed a couple tower speaker enclosure designs and i am keeping these to myself for the time(as soon as i am done with my home projects -duty calls..i will start) wether it will become a comercial reality, i dont know..
alot will depend on a cost, profit, and a "good fit" with the parties involved.

hope that helps,

mike
