I buying 2 wetsounds pro 80's and have an amp question... I need something to power these, due to the malibu sportsters lack of storage i will probobly not add a sub. I do not want to spend alot of money since i about went broke on the speakers but on the same note i dont want to get something that wont run the speakers, I know almost nothing about audio equipment but the speakers are rated at 200W RMS so i suppose i need a 2x200W rms amp? what suggestions do you have for such an amp on a budget? (brands/ model) everything ive found so far has been in the $400-500 price range, (JL, JBL ect.) is there anything cheaper that will fit the bill?thanks in advance

Problem with saving some cash is that you might be sacrificing quality, and those speakers are very sensitive to bad power. You really want to send good, clean power to them to get the most out of all that money you spent on them, because with the wrong amp, you may as well have some Pyle 6's up there.

Grab the JL 300/2, it's 150 per channel but it's highly underrated. That amp will sound completely fantastic with thost speakers and can be had for a reasonable price if you're willing to risk it. If you're not, then do NOT buy online, as there is no such thing as an authorized online JL dealer, so your warranty will be void.

I went with Mmatts due to small footprint/size and have really been happy with the performance, but I know that is a couple hundred out of what you wanted to spend. My second choice was a kicker 850.4(something like that.) and I was going to buy from woofers.etc save some money and reputable.

Were actually having a special on Wetsounds speakers and JL amps. It’s kind of like a package deal. If you would be interested, I could get you a price on the package if you like. Just email me because I don’t want to post the price on the forum.

Great question. I was also thinking about running a set of Pro 80's and a Pro 485. What amps do you guys recommend for this set up? Would a JL 300/4 be enough power?

a 300/4 is a good match for 1 set of 80's. I run mine with the amp bridged @ 150x2 and the 80's scream. You'll need another amp to run the single 485.

JL is overpriced...try massive audio. Read a few car audio forums and see what they have to say about JL audio. Massive has a 2 channel 200x2 amp around $150 (rated at 12.5 volts). good clean power.

Andrew,

JL is expensive, but you get what you pay for. That is with anything in life, regardless of what it is. JL stuff is solid.

Get the Alpine PDX 4.150 for starters, when you have money again buy a second one.

Johnny, the 300/4 would not be a good amp for you to run the entire 3some on, the rear channels are not enough power. You need 200x2 for the 80s and another 300 for the 485, so 2 300/2's would be more ideal.
Hamkj, sent you a PM.

I'm using the Hifonics Zeus ZXi 1006 to my Pro 80's. I'm not a stereo expert, but they sound loud and clean to me. It's a 2 channel 250 watt @ 4 ohm amp. Here's a link on eBay well below your budget.

Here's one to Hifonics site for info and specs also.

I've got a Wetsounds 3some and 6 in-boat speakers all powered by 2 ARC Audio KAR900.1D AMPs and it is frigg'n loud and very crisp even at 75 feet back. I get compliments all the time from it. I even had a guy turn his boat around and chase me down to check out my system 2 weeks ago because he said he could hear my radio a couple hundred yards back.

Sorry about that. I had a typo on my last post. The ARC Audio KAR900.1D is my high power bass AMP for my 15" sub. The two AMPs I'm using for the Wetsounds 3some and in-boat speakers are ARC Audio KAR600.4 (4-channel)

I push two Wetsound 485's off a JL Marine 6450 bridged to two channels at 150 RMS each and they get pretty damn loud.
