I was messing around in our shop the other day and found some scrap stainless steel flat bar, so I decided to build myself a box anchor. About how big are these things I was thinking a 14” box would be big enough to hold my boat.

I think that my small is 13.5 x 13.5. So 14" would work fin for a boat up to 24'

If it works, how much you charge for a second one?

Are you going to try and build it to be collapsable too?

If it works yee of little faith lol… yes it will be collapsible as well. I am thinking of making it fold up to a smaller size than the ones you can buy. You probably would not want to pay what it would cost for me to make you one my labor is free to me but not to others lol. I have it all cut out and broken up just need to pick up some rod to make the hinges, I will post pictures when I’m done. O and thanks for the dimensions Adam.

Well finished the anchor up Saturday morning and tried it out Sunday afternoon. I did not have any problems with it at all. Heres a couple of pictures before I polished it.

After building it does the manufacturers price of $350 make sense?

The manufacturers price makes perfect sense. It took me about two hours to fab it and polish it up. If you take all my cost into account i.e. material, time, consumables (electricity, grinding disk, filler rod, shield gas, etc.) I could make them for that but you would not have near the quality that the manufactured ones do. I simply decided to make it instead of buy it because I enjoy doing that sort of thing. I think that the stainless is 8 gauge but im not sure, it probable could have been a little heavier but that is what I had laying around.

A box anchor for $350, I hope it's for a yacht. The medium should only be $200.

ha ha patent infringement I like that if you only knew all of the things that my dad and I have made copys of instead of buying... you get alot of strange looks when your measuring things at stores/dealerships lol.

Start manufacturing the copies for resale and you may not say that.

This is true never have sold anything we have made for that reason and not really looking to sell anything anyways. Its just one of those things where I look at something and go you know I bet I can build one of those and then it becomes a challenge to see if I can build it better than the manufacturer. In this case it was not better than the manufacturer but then again I never set out for it to be. This was more of a hey I bet I can turn that scrap into a box anchor.
