I found this old thread which asks the question that interests me. The OP got 3 responses. Are there any other insights on this issue?

OP
The lake I ride at is currently under "no wake" due to all the rain. So it's been a whole lot of slow booze-cruises and drinking thus far. So basically we just take the boat out, and have a slow ride at our 3-5mph, listen to tunes and relax, ect. It probably takes us a good 45mins to one hour to complete a full revolution of the lake. Is it bad for the engine to drive at idle for hours at a time? I know that with MasterCrafts, atleast for the motor-break in, that its *not* good to keep your boat at idle speeds for long amounts of time. The boat I ride has over 130hrs, and is an '05 MC X-10 w/ the MCX.
So yea, is there anything wrong with idling for hours at a time? We probably go around the lake 3-6 times per weekend.}

Won't hurt a thing.

You may have to change your oil more often if you just troll around,check it a few times make sure it doesn't smell too much like gas.

I would say it is better for it than under load or wide open.
