Anyone having knee problems? I have had an Acl reconstruction just over a year ago now and it still hurts lots of the time. But it is definitely stronger.

How are your knees feeling post Acl reconstruction?

Mentally how long did it take to get back to 100%?
(I find myself holding back)

check out the post entitled "Its Official" its all about knee injuries.

Does that help? If not try doing a search, this topic has come up a lot, espcially recently. Good luck, hope that helped...

I tore my PCL last year and at my doctors advice did not have surgery to repair it. Apparently the PCL cannot be restored to the way it was so there is really no point to doing surgery?

Anyway, I know what you mean about the mental aspect. I just started riding again this month. I've ridden a total of three times and still have not really mustard up the courage to jump. Although I am wearing a nice brace, I am so afraid of tweaking my knee on a landing that I chicken out each time I approach the wake. I've gotten a little more confident with each outing, but I still have a ways to go before I'm hitting wake to wakes again.

I had my ACL, MCL, LCL rebuilt this last August(2003) and am now about 8 months out, it is definiately a mental block right now when i ride but i am also going bigger than i evr have before considering i jsut got a new SAN TE but it has helped me and from what i hear a lot of other people to take Glucosimine regularly. Good luck with your knee.

Geoff, what is glucosimine and what does it do?

Glucosamine is a joint rebuilder, it is one of those things that you have to take as regulararly as possible and it helps you to re-grow cartilage and strengthen joints.

i blew my acl 8 years ago in high school basketball. i wore a brace for about a year. after that first year i had some soreness after strenuous activity. now i play basketball, wakeboard, snowboard, etc...and it never even crosses my mind. it was probably 1.5 - 2 years after surgery before i quit thinking about my knee.

A good combo is a product with glucosamine and chondroitin. Attracts water to the joint and provides essential lubrication, supplies the components for formation of healthy joint matrix, and reduces the activity of cartilage-degrading enzymes.

How many people actually use Glucosemine? Sounds like it really works...you just get it from your doc?

You don't need a prescription for it. My mom uses it...she's a geezer (that's a term of endearment). She takes it because it's supposed to help with arthritis. That's another reason why us post-op knee people should be taking it...once you tear your acl or have some serious trauma to your knee, your chances of having arthritis in that joint go way up.

I personally don't take it, although I'd like to. I don't remember the reasons, but I was told that glucosamine is not good for younger people. I would recommend doing research on the product, just for peace of mind and to inform yourself...I know I still need to do that.
