industry standard on stance width measurement

what is the standard way of measuring stance width? and i guess 8" bindings eliminate any adjustment on 6" hole pattern boards?

I just bought an 09 obrien decade, and my stance doesnt seem as wide as it should be. the bindings i have are 08 slingshots.

You should be able to get an 09 plate for those which are a 6 inch plate I believe.
