YO!! I'm looking for a cheap winch for the next season. i got about 2500$ but something cheaper would be even better as i got to send it to Belgium. I need something powerfull enough to pull off someone from the water (not from a deck). Maybe a used winch... The cheapest would be to built it myself but I really really suck for that kinf of thing.. So i would rather buy one. thank

Those things look like garbage. Wood...seriously, wood!? w/ a cheap chinese Honda knock off and a centrifical clutch. (even though they dont list the tranny type, you can bet its the cheapest) Looks like a recipe for disaster. No thanks.

Dude, do some research over on wakeskateing.com about knock off motors...From what I've read they last for a little while and then blow. Notice the warranty info off that site: "1 year warranty on motor "from motor company" 'from motor company' = Not a Honda, or they would probably talk about what a great motor Honda makes and the warranty Honda provides. Yet they list the item as 'Winch-woodcore-honda' Looks kinda shady imo. If you've ridden or operated a winch before you'd know that wood's not going to hold up. I wouldn’t waste your $.

I once saw a winch made from a pit-bike. I'm not sure what the engine size was, but most pit-bikes are 50-70cc (4-stroke). I thought it was a pretty good idea, considering those 50-70cc engines are bullet-proof and make decent power... You can find pit-bikes for sale all day long (avg. cost $600). Everything is already incorporated... Engine, spool, throttle, brake, and a seat to sit on! The only downside to this option... There's going to be a little build-up/manufacturing. However, the winch I saw used the rear wheel (minus the tire) as the spool, the front forks as a guide for the rope (minus the front wheel). So, I'm thinking some wheel modification (rope hook-up), some sort of guide for the front... And a way to anchor that bad-boy... And you're set! If anyone knows of the winch I'm talking about... Post up. I've been considering this as a project of my own.

Hey pierre i got a buddy of mine who makes winches and there plenty powerful with an 8 hp motor. If you want i could get you his number and you could give him a call and he could make it to your specifications (color, size, accessories, etc). The pricing on this would also be much cheaper than any of the other winches out there.

Pierre, you might try neverride as they are out of Switzerland. Their cheapest model is $2750 Euro. Not sure if thats an option for ya, but it looks like a killer winch and you wouldnt have to ship it accross the pond.

I know a guy who makes some bad a$$ winches here in Texas. They're really powerful with the 11hp motor and at $1200 they can't be beat. Here's his myspace link with all his info. Check out the video of them winching the ocean at the bottom of the page...so sick! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=438 402993

are you talking about a deep water start? I wouldn't trust 6.5hp motor for deep water starts.

You could always make your own I only have about $800 in mine and it's a beast I have an 8hp Briggs on it with TAV2 the frame is all steel and I made a steel releasing spool too so pulling out the rope is effortless and it yanks my @ss right out of the water (Message edited by lovin_the_wake on February 05, 2009)

How did you put only 800 into it? Isn't the 8 hp Briggs is like 400 and TAV2 about 200? So you were able to get frame materials, frame welding, chain, sprocket, rope guide, spool, axle for spool, and line all for 200? Or are those prices for engine and TAV2 too high?

The reason for the tall exhaust is so the operator sitting next to the winch isn't sucking in fumes the whole time
