Where do I start. I was stoked this summer my dream came true. You know. NEW BOAT!! But my fourth trip out I tore some ligament on the inside of my left knee that starts with a C. Doc says 6 weeks to heel. I am looking for some info on this in the real world. You know. Heel time and what you may have done to rehab it as quickly as possible. Also I find out soon via MRI. The Doc thinks I may have torn my mcl and acl. I hope not cause he says that means surgery!!! Hit me up and let me know. If anything take this bit of advice. You cant pick up your progression from last summer right out of the gate. Take it slow early in the season till you are comfortable. I am only at the intermeadiate level, but after the summer off I tried to go big right away. It had me forcing it and thats how I may have lost the summer with the new boat. Any way hit me up!!!!

did he/she possibly call it a "capsular" ligament as opposed to the actual name? capsular ligaments reinforce the joint they support. so maybe your doc said "intracapsular," which would refer to a reinforcing ligament deep in the knee?

Maybe. My forward motion seems to be ok and the left side seems to be ok. But the inside of my knee is the problem. If i even think about twisting or any motion in that direction and it feels like my knee is dislocating????

Does Medial Collateral ligament ring a bell?

You would think I would have remembered since I just saw the Doc today. But yes collateral is what he said. What do you know about it? I didnt go to med school so the doctor really didnt give much of an explanation I understood other than this frekin big brace and to keep it on for 6 weeks. Other than that no details on the lig...

It sounds like he wants you to heal by letting the tear scar down.
But I'd wait for the MRI before you start to jump the gun on treatment and down time.

also, don't be afraid to call back and ask your doctor or the nurse to explain it to you again. there's nothing wrong with that!

Sounds like the medial collateral ligament (MCL), which you mentioned your doctor said.
Just wondering if the "C" word was "Cruciate", as in Anterior or Posterior Cruciate ligaments? (ACL/PCL)? Either way, the MRI is the key......
I wish you the best of luck, and hope you can heal without surgery!
And I agree with Kylie, call back and get the details!

Let us know..... Good luck.

if he mentioned anything about healing...it must be collateral ligament. It has a blood supply as opposed to the cruciates, which don't heal on their own. Good luck.

The only problem with the Medial Collateral Ligament is that it's actually attached to the Medial Meniscus.
So when the ACL & MCL are injured, most of the time the medial meniscus is involved as well.
This is what we call the "Unhappy Triad"
