I posted on another forum that I was wanting to get a community board for everyone to use instead of them using my 09 LF S4 LTD and my 09 Sovens. I was wanting some OT bindings with a board that would feel a little more planted than my S4. I love the loose feel of my board but most other riders with me are beginners and struggle to stay steady when riding mine. Something with some fairly long tracking fins to keep it stable would be better for everyone else I think. I found this HL Apex 142 with some OT bindings for what seems to be a decent deal. What do you guys think?

Bottom line is I'm just tired of everyone using my board and wearing it out that much quicker. I want to have a community board that I can keep seperate from my own personal board.

I can also get a LF PS3 with some transit bindings for $200 shipped, or a 2010 Ronix Viva 144 for $150+ shipping w/o bindings. I'm not sure what route to take.

I would go with whatever you feel best as far as price wise. You are supplying people a setup and beggars can't be choosers. If they don't like it, encourage them to buy their own setup.

That ebay link you posted seems kinda odd to me.
i don't see that board in the 2011 line. Also when doing a search the last time that board was made was 2008 and was a totally different shape than pictured in the add, but same graphic. the description of the board does not match the picture either e.x. "fret rails and molded-in-fins." the pictured board has neither of those things. li'l bit fishy to me.

Of the boards mentioned, along with the desire for aided tracking i think the viva might be best. it has two removable fins on each end which will allow you to change the board's feel the most. throw on two large fins on the tail and you will have a supper grippy board. put smaller ones on for a loose feel. So a board with at least 4 removable fins is my vote, but that is just my opinion.

Additional note that you might find usefull:
if you want super easy in and out boots you might take a look at either the 2011 Slingshot Options, or the 2011 CWB Vapors. they have replaceable velcro straps. previous models and other brands' of strap boots are NOT replaceable. too bad only just this year did companies get smart enough to offer this.

I'm glad that you pointed that out about the ebay link, I didn't even notice it.

As of now I'm planning on buying the Viva, the problem is the bindings. I feel like that's a really good deal on the board but I was hoping to stay under $300 or $350 max for the entire setup. The bindings you mentioned look good but with them being newer models it's tough to find them marked down. I found some new OT 2010 LF Transit bindings for $125 but the problem with them are they are only in size 12+. Most of the riders will be around a size 12, maybe a little less so I think they would probably still be okay if we just tightened them down tight. I've never had any OT bindings so I don't really know how flexible the sizing is. Could someone with say a size 10 foot wear these and tighten them down or do you think they would come out during a crash?

Get a used one off the classifieds here, or craigslist. Get some Large open toes, and a 140ish board, a Murray would be a good choice for a variety of people.

It's smart to have a community board, or especially community bindings.

depending on your "community/crew" see if they are willing to pitch in some $

A good fitting boot is #1, especially as abilities of the rider increases.
i have found that Neoprene booties help with various sizes (within a 2 size difference or so) fit the same boot, especially with closed toe. riders in the smaller sizes can put the neo socks on to make their feet larger. you might use this method along with what you buy, but buying neo-booties is also just another expen$e

if your community/crew include any intermediate or especially higher skilled riders, they might be better off getting their own gear.

They arent really. Strictly beginner riders. None can w2w yet but a couple probably arent far from trying their first. If i could find those transits for cheap in 10-12 i would be set, but the 12+ is all can find at the moment. Im just worried that someone with a smaller foot will slip out of them.

Picked up a new left over 2009 CWB Pure 142 with vapors for < 200$ at West Marine for a boat board. My guests all seem to like it. I have never ridden it.
Get yer filthy paws off my Transcend!

could try the used classifieds route
ask for some dough from buddies to get exactly what you/they want
continue to shop around (if you find a package that is not a four-removeable-fin-board with some good molded-in-fins i'm sure that will be fine too)

just a quick search and i found these binding potentials

Anyone have any experience with Hyperlite Freak1cy bindings? I found a set of new 2011's for $99. I know they probably aren't great and I don't expect them to be but are they complete junk? I know Hyperlite is a pretty reputable company so I would think even their low-end stuff would be decent. If these are good enough, I will probably pick a set up to pair with that Ronix and can get out by spending $250 for a pretty good board and some mediocre bindings that will fit everyone on the boat.
