Nikon D70 Lens

I have the Nikon D70 with the kit lens and the 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom These work great for wakeboarding and normal pictures but neither one works good for my daughter’s indoor soccer games or gymnastics. Will the 70-200 f2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR work well for these things or is there a lens for less that will work as well?
I am fairly new to photography and am looking to get a lens that will work the best for these low light fast actions shots. I do not mind spending the money if I know it is going to produce good results.

The 70-200 f2.8 will work in those conditions.

You're on the right track, get a faster lens like the 70-200. f2.8 will make a huge difference over f5.6 and crank up your ISO as you're stuck needing high shutter speeds shooting anykind of action/sports. Then go invest in Noise Ninja or another good noise reduction program. The Nikon images really need that above ISO800. Depending on how well lit the gym or field is you'll probably be forced to use ISO1600+ even at f2.8 to get any kind of reasonable fast shutter.
